Now just add real time views and typing to self hosting and I'll sign a NCA (Non-crying agreement) for an entire year.

I'm glad you highlighted these! We genuinely care about Invision clients and want you to know that your words don't fall on deaf ears. We are def listening 🥲

You can't really believe that. Complaining is what got us Zapier for self hosting and the return of 6 month renewals instead of 12 months, and a dismissible "upgrade to cloud button" just to name a few within the past couple months. 🙂

So what's the problem here? They pay for support. If IPS doesn't want to have to deal with 3rd party software they can make it so. Using the excuse of it adding more overhead to support while charging more for support is ridiculous.
There's absolutely no excuse for excluding these features outside of pushing people to cloud. I do not have Redis installed, therefore I do not use features that use Redis. It would be the same concept with NodeJS. If I don't want to worry about the hassle I simply don't install it, and the feature remains disabled.

Indeed. I looked into it too and it doesn't seem difficult. CPanel has some nicely detailed instructions and once installed, Node.JS apps can be added via the control panel.

I 100% agree. Installation doesn't seem complicated:

As a worst case, community members can help each another. Doesn't look like nuclear science. Self host folks, running on dedicated server, install Apache, MySQL, PHP, etc. by themselves, anyways unless managed server. So I don't see any issue overall.

Automated response saying that server issues are not supported. Simple.
If not, it would also be best for IPS to remove Elasticsearch and Redis features from the self hosted clients, because the reason is the same.

You are talking about Xenforo or Vbulletin?
We already have features in teh self hosted to use Redis and Elasticsearch if we want. I don't see any reason why we wounldn't also be able to use Node JS if we wanted to.
If im not mistaken, the realtime new features uses Node JS. IPS already submitted the code to the cloud platform, why not doing it also for the self host, and who wants to use, they simple install and configure Node JS. The ones that can't do that or don't want do that, well, they don't use the feature.
We already do that with Redis and Elasticsearch.

That's not really an opinion. There is no chance a gaming community outside of large orgs are paying for the Business plan.

I wouldn't call this an innovation, especially when it's gated to 5% of the community lol
This is yet another example of how detached IPS are to their customers. The fact that such a simple feature is excluded from self hosted licenses, but also gated in a $600 per month cloud plan? waaaaaaaAAAAT?
