I agree with MindTooth. Some of those suggestions seem pretty reasonable. I don't mind not using TinyMCE. It's nothing important really. IMHO, we really don't need it. But the last suggestion is a must, really. The site has been moved for quite some time now.

I have some suggestions that I would love to see implemented in the UCP in the future; these suggestions are both original and derived from other forum software. I hope to see some added in the future!

    UCP Layout
I don't think the tabbed layout works that well with the UCP. I like the fact that there are tabs, but I don't like the fact the layout revolves around them. I like the old style of the left-hand-side options. Possibly some AJAX for expanding and contracting them, and maybe still use tabs a bit? It's sometimes complex to understand which tab something is on (profile & settings get confused alot) etc; also, make common features accessable easily (possibly an optional dashboard?)

    Profile Field Privacy/Private Profiles
I've noticed this feature in vB, and I fell in-love with it. I know that IPB is trying to stay away from becoming a massive scattered social network platform, but this is a feature I see as very useful; especially in the area of hiding contact details for only friends to see; and for preventing ignored users from viewing areas of the profile/posting messages. I strongly support implimenting this into IPB3

Those are my main concerns, also, there are some posted on this thread (CUSTOMER/STAFF ACCESS ONLY, SORRY).

I hope to see these added soon!

roc13x reacted to Nityananda in I have now switched from VBulletin
Well sort of ... I have bought invision LOL ..

I want to leave feedback in here in the same way as I would on the vbulletin licenced user area... Truthfully

For anyone who is currently a vbulletin licence holder and has been reading over there, you know what it has been like. I have purchased my software here, they have had email issues, high telephone volumes, site being swamped with questions etc etc ...... So here is my purchase:

Step 1: I had a query regarding pricing, and therefore emailed the sales team here at invision. A few hours later I recieved an email from their exchange saying that it was undeliverable. Now my first thought was "here we go again, they all the same"

Step 2: I decided to send a pm to charles on here, who is busy as hell with questions LOL .... However me being impatient decided to call the telephone sales line too.

Step 3: Called the sales support in the US, from the UK. As the sales line was extremely busy, I was passed to an operator almost immediately who took my telephone number and said someone would call me back (yep, a callback in the uk from the us ... Impressed)

Step 4: Bare in mind I have had no responce from Charles. I recieve my telephone call back within 10 mins.... And who was on the other end of the line... Charles!!!!! ... My query was sorted, emails sent to me, and I had purchased everything as I required within 5-10 mins.

That my friends, is why I have switched........ Because it makes a change not to be ranting at someone who doesnt listen.. Instead I'm asking questions of people who do care about their customers.

OK guys, here is my view of IPB now I have had a chance to play with it properly on my own licence etc and what I think it is missing in comparison to vbulletin. To me these would be the key areas that should be concentrated on in order to pull vbulletin apart at the seams ;)

Search functionality - Yep, I can see this has been mentioned over and over so not gonna go into it. You guys know what it needs and I can see your working with it.

Modification area - This needs to be easily viewable to a new customer even if they cannot download. I had to go looking for it and this shouldnt be the case. This is of most importance to a lot of people. It also doesnt seem to have the 'flashyness' of the main website and looks to me as it needs a bit of overhall in order to make it more friendly. Things like people becoming coders/designers etc once they have given so much back to the comunity are a big thing over at vb.org in my opinion and would be a great idea for here. We all know coding is competition to be the best, so give the guys something to compete with. Mod of the month, coder tags, feedback etc (yes I know some of this is there however its not visible enough to a new user)

wysiwyg editor - When I make a piece of text bold, I want to see it bold. Im not interested in the bbcode tags as a user (however I should have the option to view them if I so wish). This to a none technical user of IPB is a massive massive issue which to you or me looks like nothing. However we are the admins not the registered users who struggle to shutdown their pc without a manual.

Will add more as I find them, as its clear your aim is to beat the biggest and you are in a possition at present to do so with ease ;) .. And personally I hope you do

On another note, if I can only find these three annoyances at present, you guys are doin damned well lol

roc13x reacted to Logan in Board Notices
I'd like the ability to create custom messages to be displayed at the top of the board if the member viewing the board meets certain conditions. Example: If member's posts is equal to 0, display message "You have not yet made a post, we encourage you to get involved, etc...". Show congratulatory posts when they reach a certain post count, show a certain message to users in a specific user groups, happy birthday, message regarding inactivity and encouraging the user to participate more, if user is using default skin let them know other skins are availalbe, etc... I think it would just create a more personalized and friendly experience for the user in some cases if the admin wanted to use it that way.

So by default include a large amount of conditions, posts, join date, last active date, is in user group, date, inactivity time, post count between x and y, currently browsing x forum, etc... and be able to create multiple messages and use multiple conditions. I think it's also important that the user be able to "close" the message then save to DB, and perhaps make that a setting per-message "can the user close this message?". Be good to close if you set a message about other skins being available and they're happy with the default skin, but you wouldn't want it to close if the user has not yet made a post or hasn't been active.

I know this can all be achieved through skin edits and using the html logic, and now just PHP in the templates in IPB 3.0. But the templates start to get messy with all those skin edits, and can be difficult to maintain. Also, a lot of users aren't tech savvy enough to use HTML and PHP to display the messages they want. I think this would be very useful.

roc13x got a reaction from Alex K. in Suggestion - Backup Directory
This feature was on a forum that I used before (MyBB) and I used it all the time.
Basically there was a directory in the admin folder named /backups/

When making an SQL backup, you had the option to create the backup in that directory, instead of downloading it.
Maybe a similar feature could be included in IPB?

    Just a suggestion :)

I really don't give a hoot if he's right (not in my book he wasn't), being patronised by a user who has no connection to IPS isn't going to impress me. If I had wanted to post a bug report I would have, but the fact is people don't look at those and the title of this forum section is entitled "IPS Company Feedback > IP.Board" is it not? Did I not provide feedback or am I wasting my time? Not sure why you'd let casual users patronise another user when all he was doing was "providing feedback".
