  1. A new version has been uploaded to the marketplace. Changes include:

    • Inline notifications after newsletter distribution threw an error. Fixed.
    • Fixed several bugs related to scheduling the next distribution date.
    • Changed scheduled task to run hourly (instead of daily) to give a more accurate publish time.

Something not right as it's not taking the first scheduled date.

I had to put that back 2 weeks so it send tomorrow at 10am however in the scheduled tasks it says it won't send until 16:05.

Oh... ok. I'll have to change the task to run hourly instead of daily, that's the closest I can get. We actually do not have control over the time that a scheduled task will run, only how often it does. IPS decides the time. So if I make it run hourly, it will send out closer to your scheduled time.

    having problems with notifications

I saw, I have not yet had time to look into it. I will, though.

I think I may purchase.  But, is there anyway to slip in a banner ad?

    Thanks

Yes. In addition to the standard content types, like "latest topics", you also have "manual content", which is basically an editor where you can enter anything you like. A banner ad should work.

You can also configure the header and footer areas of the newsletter, and a banner ad could be placed there as well.

    Hi there,

    Some feedback:

"Gallery" - would be good if it actually rendered thumb nails instead of links when viewed in HTML to make the email more attractive to view.

loving the plugin so far will be good for my members :)

You can customize the template for gallery to allow that. I intentionally do not provide specific templates for different content types because the code is written to handle any item you throw at it. If I start customizing, there will be no end. :)

Also, I have installed bouncer plugin - does this addon ignore members who are subscribed where the preference to prevent emails from sending to invalid email addresses is set?

I don't want to spam sparkpost with invalid emails

I don't have any integration with 3rd party plugins. Emails that have the "send me email" flag disabled are skipped.

so, how do I know the unsubscribe link is working OK? I did a test distribution to my own email address and it just displayed the text as *|unsubscribe|* is that normal when testing the distribution ?

Unsubscribe is not included in the test because it's dependent on the newsletter issue. Issues are not generated until a publish.

lastly on the newsletter ACP it says next distribution 01/14/2017 -   on a 2 weekly interval.

The scheduled start date is 01/07/2017 - does this mean that the first newsletter will be emailed out on the 7th Jan?

No. First newsletter will go out on the 14th, like it says... that might be a bug. I'll look into it.

    Hi @HeadStand

I am thinking of purchasing this addon, but have some questions first:

    1) Can I subscribe all my existing members to receive this newsletter on a monthly basis?
    2) Can I create a single "template" that will mail them a monthly digest of activity or do I have to create a monthly newsletter manually and mail it out?
    3) Will new members who join to my website be automatically subscribed to the newsletter?

    Cheers,

    Pete

    1) Yes.

    2) templates are not newsletters. A template is just a wrapper. You create one newsletter, define the activity you want to include  (e.g. recent topics, latest articles), then you schedule it to go out monthly and never think about it again.

    3) Yes.

  6. A new version has been uploaded to the Marketplace. Changes include:

    • Deleting a newsletter threw an error. Fixed.
    • Distribution via SparkPost placed a "hi {{member_name}}" in the email instead of the member's name. Fixed.

Thank you @NoGi for assisting me in troubleshooting these issues.

    Yes I am.

AHA! And now I think I know the problem. Pretty sure this is an IPS bug (which I will report) but I can work around it.

As a test, can you switch the newsletter to use SMTP and see if it works? You should be able to do this in the newsletter settings.

That's it and what's happening with me.

Anyway, I'll let her enjoy her break in peace and will wait till next week when she is back on deck to look at this. Other than that, awesome app @HeadStand

Are you by any chance using SparkPost?

  9. 2 hours ago, ShiroHa said:

Yeah but that kind of setup would be extremely tedious to get right, I'd rather just have a HTML template appear in the editor when a user wants to post a new topic in the specified forums.

Same effort..... it would be the same html in one place instead of another. Maybe try it?

  10. 2 hours ago, ShiroHa said:

So it could allow me to customize it to the point where this appears by default when creating a new topic?

    example.png

Oh. No. I thought you were talking about the display. You could have separate fields for each of those when you create the topic and then have the post formatted that way in display  (which is really the end goal anyway, isn't it).

  11. 12 minutes ago, ShiroHa said:

Not really, since I want it to display in a table, and for what I have in mind, there would be no reason for my users to erase the content, but at the end of the day that's a problem for me to deal with. All this system offers is to collect said information, but with no customization at all or any way of changing how it's displayed (at least with out knowing css and html fairly well), I misunderstood what this application actually does, I admit I made a mistake buying this without asking about it first but other than that, unfortunately I had no way of knowing unless I actually demo'd it.

It's fully customizable, you can display it any way you want.

No - What I'm after is something that will allow specific forums to have pre-loaded content in the ckeditor for members to be able to edit, for example; I have a forum for types of cars, and I want a html template to be loaded upon clicking create new topic so all the members have to do is fill in the data.

Why would you want the editor to have content that could be erased? This is better. You give the users fields to populate with the information you are looking for.

Example: you could have a text field where the users enter the make and model of their car. And then it would display in the post.

It's the same thing you want, but more reliable and flexible.

Ok, so am I the only one experiencing this? I could try a full uninstall and reinstall tomorrow if that's the case?

I don't think that would matter. I'm not working this weekend but let me give it another shot next week.

  14. 18 minutes ago, NoGi said:

Just to confirm, you did a publish correct? As it doesn't show on preview or test distribution. Only shows when published.

Yes. Haven't given up yet, I just don't have a fix yet.

  15. 53 minutes ago, ShiroHa said:

This totally isn't what I expected it to be, can I please have a refund? Thought I could use it to actually add a template to new topics in specified forums, I wouldn't actually even use this. Unless you can add an option for HTML template to new topics that members can edit the values of (not the HTML itself) with the ability to disable the standard ckeditor entirely.

That IS what this is. Except the ability to disable the editor. I'm not sure why this isn't what you were expecting? Just that one feature  (which I will add eventually, it's just not so simple), but aside from that, that's what this does - allows you to actually add a template to new topics in specified forums.

  16. 1 hour ago, NoGi said:

I'm not, it's putting it in when using defaults (no custom code). It doesn't show on preview only on the actual email when published.

So you mean the "template" dropdown is set to empty? It's using the IPS wrapper?

@HeadStand Thank you this gets me very excited, I didn't see a sample email in your photos, I'm looking for something that will at least include the thread preview image...all text just won't get peoples attention. Is there a sample you could email me perhaps?

I don't have samples because I don't have an actual site. But I can tell you that the layout is 100% customizable, so you can show anything you want any way you want to.

    Suggestion:
    - Force all users to subscribe to specific news letter (force, as in enable it for them once then they can disable if wanted).
    - Ability to edit the default IPS Template (maybe adding some extra txt here n there).
    - Ability to enable it, so all new people that register gets signed up on the news letter automatically.

@HeadStand really hope to see those, merry christmas <3

#1 - it already works like this. That's what the "Default Groups" setting is for when you edit the newsletter.

#2 - in theory you could copy the IPS template and use it to create a new template. There isn't really anything for me to do here, you just need to copy/paste.

#3 - It already works like this. See my comment on #1.

then i select this one, via editing the content tab.. looks the same for me the screenshot I took. I had to create the template manually, even after reinstalling.

Right.... I said don't use ANY template and it will take the lPS wrapper. What you did was generate an empty template and use it. Not quite what I said. ;)
