  1. I know it's not ideal, but you could always close your other insignificant ticket until your other one is resolved. In the scheme of things though, one easy ticket isn't going to push back your other one by any significant amount of time.

[edit] And do you know how many people think that their ticket should have the highest priority? ;)

  2. I am stubborn too, hence why I am still posting in this thread too. I never said paying for a service negates the fact that you paid for a service. Perhaps you want to explain more of what you mean when you say "there little I can do on an internet discussion forum". I am not sure I understand that part, but I think I do, but rather than make an assumption, I will let you clarify yourself.

It means that proper manners are ingrained in you early in your childhood and reading a few pages on a discussion forum won't change that.

  3. Your entire position is contradictory, which is why it's so ironic. You talk about manners and courtesy while insulting they guy your talking to. I think you're the one now grasping at straws. I thought you said this post wasn't even worth responding to anymore?

The fact you think my position is contradictory is why I think it's pointless to argue further. Unfortunately for you and I both, I'm stubborn. If you think saying thank you some how negates the fact that you paid for that service then there's little I can do with words on an internet discussion forum.

  4. So Brandon is not a techie or support staff? How about Jason (who usually does an excellent job I must add).

Look up my posts. I'm typically known for airing my opinions, whether they're in line with IPS or not ;)

  5. I could tell your mind was having trouble because you can't even comprehend the basic way the world works. It's really not that difficult, you pay for a service and you expect the service you pay for. Where are you having trouble with this? And, don't you see the irony of your constant rambling about manners and kindness when interacting with others all the while you personally insult them? This makes you a hypocrite.

When did I ever say anything contradictory to "you pay for a service and you expect the service you pay for"? Please, point me to an example. I never said you shouldn't expect a service you paid for. You're grasping at straws here.

  6. I find it rather funny that you preach about all this love and kindness while participating in a flame war. Either your a liar or a hypocrite. Which is it? Actually, in the real world, you pay for a service and expect a service. Would you thank dish network if you paid them for their service, and they didn't deliver the service or provided poor service? Honestly? Or can I even expect honestly since you are either a liar or a hypocrite.

Perhaps it's the long work days that are getting to me, but my brain is failing to comprehend the fact that I'm even having to argue this. I'm not preaching "love and kindness", I'm preaching what you evidently missed in your childhood. No, I'm not advocating you thank a company for failing to provide a service. I'm encouraging the use of manners when interacting with another person, the ones you seem to fail to grasp. It's rather pointless arguing any further.

  7. I say thank you when someone does something they should be thanked for, like volunteering, not for what they get paid for while offering mediocre service. You are the one attacking someone else for their opinion, and you want to go on about common courtesy? Interesting, I guess it says a lot about you.

The world you're describing is very dull and quite frankly one I wouldn't want to exist in. All transactions between people are motivated by some ulterior motive - monetary based or not. Whether someone did it because they wanted their good deed for the day or because you paid them money doesn't change the fact that they performed some sort of service for you. According to your logic, any exchange involving goods or services for money would be pure business with no personality. Sounds boring, doesn't it? We'll take IPS as an example, but it goes for any company. You paid them money, they gave you a license to use their product and access to support. You're even. Anything else from you or IPS is icing on the cake. Those "I apologize for the wait", "I hope you have a good weekend", "Please let us know if there's anything else we can assist you with" statements, you didn't pay for them did you? Just because the world is run on money doesn't mean you can't show a little humanity.
  8. Saying "thank you" is common courtesy. You know, it's one of those things that makes us human. No, you don't need to go out of your way to thank the cable company unless you feel the need - but refusing to do so, when given the chance, simply because you paid them money is what disturbs me. I honestly find it hard to believe that I'm actually debating this. Courtesy is one of the few similarities between all cultures and ignoring it simply because you think you're entitled to arrogance after forking out money for services is what gets me.

  9. I'm not here to argue whether or not IPS has been doing it's job or not, but I find the whole idea behind "I paid them to do what they're doing, I don't need to thank them" to be revolting and just shows what kind of person you are.

  10. Personally I don't seem much point. For example, at least for me, searching the forums content on this website would be pretty much useless. The only posts I really search for are within "private" forums - like all of the IPS Resources category - which Google doesn't index. I really only use Google to search for small words in the Tracker here.

I could see it as "nice to have" but really, minus the performance issues, the internal search is quite nice, especially the way it searches content from all of your apps in one place.

  11. Whatever the majority may have been, they certainly didn't complain about it on these forums near any level compared to what I've seen since IPB3 went final alone. I think taking the one minute to throw up a (yet another) new setting to handle this might be best, to at least quiet both sides =p

  12. Another feature to add. Ability to have new registrations compared to collectible data from sites such as stopforumspam.com and how to act based on the information collected.

IPB3 already implements stopforumspam.com, it's just not as configurable as you would like it to be. Check the Security [Managing Members] settings or do a live search for 'spam'. You can configure it thru /ips_kernel/classStopForumSpam.php

While IPB3 is a great release, I would love to see significant improvements on the lofi skin and application management for admins.

  13. Indeed, I'm doing usability studies on the site. I find this kind of thing fascinating...

We've already made a couple of small tweaks to the site based on these :)

Is it sad that the screenshot containing Rikki's photo is clicked more than the one containing the attractive woman on the right? :lol:I guess Rikki's photo coupled with the natural reading from left to right wins over attractive woman :P
  14. Yeah, I really don't think they're that similar either. In fact, saying they are is almost an insult to IPB3, as those screenshots still look like they were made 5 years ago.

  15. Here's my first round of suggestions :)

1 - It would be nice if the "Add Another Choice" button with Polls would add the text box below the box my cursor is currently in (and renumber the options accordingly). Right now if I want to go back and add an option I have to cut/paste to reorder each option below it.

2 - If you're feeling adventurous you could also add a few small buttons to the poll form like "A-Z", "Z-A" that will automatically sort the poll options alphabetically. This is good to use if the poll maker doesn't want to come off as biased (adding options they like first)

3 - Add a "Force Uninstall" option for applications. Basically the same thing as the uninstall routine but it catches/suppresses any errors. Good if the admin tried to manually uninstall an application or something went wrong in the uninstall and left the install partially in tact.

Great release by the way, I'm loving it :D

  16. I say at the very least give people the option to turn on the speed mode with search on or off.

As bfarber said, performance mode just disables a bunch of settings. After enabling performance mode you can make a few extra clicks to go enable search. If you're using performance mode so much that it becomes a hinderance to have to enable search manually then I'd suggest you look into a better server.

Tweaking performance mode so that the admin can specify what to disable entirely defeats the purpose of it in the first place.
  17. If permissions allow, you can still "delete" a database by dropping it (DROP DATABASE dbname) from within phpMyAdmin, like you can the tables. As Andy said, if you click on the database in the left hand column you should see a Drop tab on the top right of the table listing (now empty since you've dropped all the tables). This should drop (delete) the entire database assuming you have permissions to do so.
