  1. You're not going crazy, I thought along the same lines and reported it as a bug but it was marked as Working as Intended :P

To be fair, it wasn't really a "bug".

    [edit] Rikki

  2. The lofi skin on IPB2 wasn't created in a world where smart mobile phones were so prominent. I can live with entire sections cut out like the PM system (since we can change skins if need be) - but the parts that are done should be done to the fullest extent possible. The current skin suits the people who know exactly what topic they want to read and know where that topic is. What about the people who are casually reading through and want to see new content? It's impossible with the current skin. You guys went through a lot of trouble - and still are - to abstract topic markers to the database but yet you aren't even making full use of it. I'm not talking about making it fancy - but a simple method to denote which forum/topic is unread would go a long way. If you want to avoid images entirely you could simply bold the unread forum/topic titles or use some other type of styling to make them stand out.

You guys promoted the lofi skin to not only replace the lofi version of IPB2 but perform as a skin for mobile devices. Right now it looks like it's not at 100% with the latter role, IMO.

  3. Current skin:

Love the changes, especially the new green bullets for unread subforums and the hover effect for buttons is nice. My only suggestion is to add the AJAX mark forum read thingy for subforum bullets as well.

    Lofi skin:

I noticed it received an update as well. Is it complete? I don't want to say much on it if it isn't, but I don't think the changes from the previous version are good. You're already crippling the forum by preventing access to certain key features (like the entire PM system), but now you're crippling the forum and topic listing as well. The previous version was great in that items were spaced out and you had more information. The current skin has less information but it's all crammed together so it looks even more overwhelming. There's no way to see if there's new topics in a forum or even see the last topic posted. What's the point of moving topic markers to the database in IPB3 if you're not going to use them to their fullest extent? :P

Also there still doesn't seem to be a way to change skins from lofi? I love that it automatically detects the user agent and applies the lofi skin, but I'm not a big fan of forcing my users to use it, nor is Google, Twitter, or any other application I use that makes use of a lofi theme.

Some screenshots if you don't have ready access to a mobile device:

  4. As far as I remember, the link was always at the bottom, just above the board statistics....

    Yup, that's where it is.

Maybe 3DKiwi is talking about the View New Content page instead? On 2.3.x there was a link to mark the forums as read up top but it's at the bottom on this skin.
  5. I think the concern is that IPS Clients aren't being given access to test the Fifth Beta.

Huh what? Where did you hear this? Pretty sure the people reporting bugs in B5 now are just the staff/QA team and will eventually be released to customers when they feel it's time ;)
  6. I don't know what link you're talking about but the one at the bottom of this thread here as well as the one on the board index as well as the one on the forum index uses the #top anchor tab, doesn't reload the page.

  7. So it would guarantee too many bugs being in RC1 or it would mean a beta 6

    No

and if there's a sixth beta that's just kind of ridiculous because not only would there have already been 5 other betas, but each one was tested much longer than these used to be tested for IPB.

    No

I mentioned the skin bugs seemingly rarely addressed

    No

and even since I said that not even 1/3 of those remaining ones have eben fixed in weeks since that point.

    Maybe

In this topic it has a JS error saying console is undefined. I don't feel like reporting it because I noticed another JS bug report was made so I will just guess it was this one and not read it.

    OK

Also, I personally liked the edit button brining up the quick or full edit dropdown. It just made it different than vb and was smoothly done. Now it's just like vb which is annoying.

    OK

And the top link they do have goes to a different page rather than using an anchor tag or javascript!

    No

So it takes as long to load a topic to simply go to the top of the current page.

    No
  8. While some of your points are valid and I may even agree with a (very) few of them, deciding to give up entirely and write off the past "4 years" of your experience with IPS based on a BETA product is a bit ludicrous.

  9. I hope they've changed it so if you assign a member group as a moderator it lists the group name as a link to the members list on the moderating team page. That way people like myself who have forums with a group containing thousand+ members moderating a single forum don't have a moderating team page that locks people's browsers up as it tries to compile and display 1000+ members on one page...

... or I hope they at least added pagination in. ... or I hope they added a setting per group that if enabled exempts them from being displayed on the moderating team page.

  10. Once again, it's not social groups, it's joinable user groups, the idea isn't like clubs at all and segregation isn't at all a part of it, it's about allowing users an easier way to be put in to certain groups, given access to certain forums, and given certain permissions. It's not social networking at all, and it's a feature on almost all the other major forum software already.

Ah, I skipped a bunch of replies and assumed a lot and ended up making an ass of myself again

It's still iffy and would have to be done a certain way. I like the idea of allowing people to manage user groups (in that they can apply and remove ONLY the groups(s) they're allowed to manage, set by the admin in ACP)... I actually have an independent utility that does this for my forum.

However, the OP has me think it IS social groups because people can create them and join them. No, people shouldn't be able to create their own groups and no, people shouldn't be able to "join" groups, only have the person who manages the group give them the group.

With all the +1s in this thread I think it's pretty clear. ;)

Right, even if we ignore the fact that it's only three +1's, a bunch of neutrals and a bunch of negatives, what makes you think the opinions here constitute the thoughts of the 4,162 people in the customers group on this forum?
  11. TBH I'm not sure of my feelings on all this social networking + forums stuff... on one hand I don't think user join-able groups is a terrible idea as it allows members of the community to meet others with similar interests... but on the other hand it encourages segregation throughout the community based on what groups people are in and results in people being content with not going out of their little shells to interact with others.

    I'm so indecisive =o

  12. 1. Have a forum with Show rights to x user
    2. Have a subforum inside that forum with Show+ rights to x user
    3. In order for the user to see that subforum, the option "Allow members who can see the forum but cannot read topics to see the topic list" has to be set to Yes. If set to No, not only does the topic list go away, but so does the subforum. The subforum should stay.

I'd actually consider this a bug. The user has show rights on both forums, yet he's not shown the subforum (even if he has permissions to "Show Forum" on both) if he doesn't have "Read Topics" perms to the root forum, and that option is set to no? "Topic list" doesn't (shouldn't) include subforums.

  13. Make the template search an actual search and not a filter. If I knew the exact name of the template I'm using, I probably wouldn't need to search for it. Bonus points if you make it search the actual content of the templates and not just the titles because again, if I even vaguely knew the name of the template I need, I probably don't need help finding it. What I need help with is finding every template that uses x like display member group, etc...

Show custom profile fields in the author details on PMs, not just posts.

Add a setting for signatures (per group) that, if enabled, will only show that member's signature on his first post on each page of a topic. This reduces clutter and provides faster load times. So if someone has three posts on a single page of a topic, only his first post on that page would have his signature.

Somehow allow us to see EVERYONE who is in a group, whether primary or secondary, from the group management section. Right now I have to go to member management, scroll all the way down and select the group from the secondary drop down list to see anyone with that group in their secondaries. There's no way to view a single list with both primary and secondary, either. It's a bit odd seeing this group has 500+ members and when I click the list that says to view the members I get 0 results.

  14. I'd like to be able to see what was so popular that caused a huge spike in traffic on my board. I think IPB should take a 'snapshot' of the sessions table, save it off in another table whenever the amount of users online breaks the 'most users ever online'. This way admins can view who was on and what they were viewing at the time the record was broke.
