I would love to see more attention put into the reputation system. Some suggestions:

    1. Make people spread reputation around before being able to give the same person reputation again and allow the admin to set the number needed before they can give the same person rep again in the ACP.

    2. The ability to disable a specific members ability to give reputation.

    3. The ability for the admin to be able to change someones specific post reputation. I have had members accidentally give a member a negative point and they wanted to change it, but as an Admin, I am unable to do so.

    4. The ability to leave comments about the reputation that only the person receiving it can see.

    5. The ability to see where you got your reputation point from, and who gave it to you. Even better would be to have a setting so you can allow people to only see who gave them positive of negative reputation.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before.. But.. While I like the idea of the 'trashcan' in IPB, I actually preferred the concept of 'soft-delete' in vB. Basically, it marks the post as deleted, it allows you to record a reason, etc.. mods/admins can still "see" it, but to everyone else it's gone. Benefit is that it's in the "right place" if another mod/admin decides to un-delete the thread/post. It's quite handy IMHO.

One other thing that's nice to have.. The ability to download (easily) a list of all the emails address for users on your board. Allow to be sorted by 'allow emails from admins', etc.. Right now there's no easy way to do this without MySQL queries.

    OK guys,
I am currently running a vbulletin forum with a professional design set. My first and foremost worry about moving over to invision was the design of my forum. My thought behind this is that it is going to be a big enough move over to invision as it stands without the fact that the forum will look completely different.

NOW, bare in mind I only purchased invision less than 24 hours ago. I have almost managed to duplicate the look of my forum with only a very very basic knowledge of CSS and some knowledge of photoshop. How have I done this? I would seriously urge you to have a good read through the topic on this forum http://www.smartestcomputing.us.com/index.php?showtopic=37422

This tutorial, I would print out and have at the side of you throughout your transition. Its simple, and it works...... Dont worry about your skinning guys. IMO its easier than vbulletin 3.8 and at the end of the day, you would have to learn 4.0 anyways.

    I agree.

IE is well *invoke swear filter here* if you get my drift?

I develop using firefox and I was SO happy with the look of my forum. But I run a 'normal user' account for seeing what my base user sees. I use IE for looking at that account and imagine my shock when I saw all my nice rounded corners gone. ;)

But as Brandon says its really such a minor thing anyway. And we don't have any choice in the matter.

Adding javascript for something like that is just more overhead the browser has to process for something non-essential.

Just wanted to say that since I joined I noticed IPB has really improved and offered a lot of new features that I wanted and others that I'm still trying. You put good software with a really helpful community and it turns out to be a really good experience. Thanks IPS

    P.S.
I really wish we could convert to community suite at any point

    All confusing analogies aside:

Improving performance is an ongoing process which we continue to work on. Don't forget that we host thousands of IPBs so performance is extremely important to us as well :)

Version 3.0.2 is faster than 3.0.1 which was faster than 3.0.0. We will continue to improve performance as we release each version, get feedback, do more research and testing, release new version, repeat. We have already received great feedback from users saying that 3.0.2/3.0.1 was a huge improvement from 3.0.0.

Something that vB has that IPB doesn't.. "Smart" marking of read topics. If you read a topic that has new posts but you don't read the last page of the topic, then it's still marked as unread (because really, you have unread posts in that topic). If you happen to start reading the topic (say the first of 5 pages) and your first unread marker is in page 3, then it'll take you to that first unread post on page 3. If you go to page 3 and then look at the topic list again, I believe it'll take you to the first post on page 4 (since you didn't look at it or the last page yet). Basically only marks all the posts read that you might have actually read, instead of the entire topic.

In all honesty, the only thing I want out of 3.0.2 is the new cleancut skin. I think that's a big portion of what everyone is hyped about.

For the Perpetual / Lifetime license holders who are upset:

First let me say we are not out to "grab money" or anything like that. I mean you are talking about a few extra dollars a year here - certainly not enough to get rich off. Anyone who has suggested this is our goal clearly does not recognize the years of honoring our past commitments that we have done or gone out of our way to be sure no one feels taken advantage of.

What we are doing is simply covering our costs and creating a renewal structure that allows us to offer enhanced services, like the spam system, around our products. This is why we switched to the renewal very 6 months that the Standard license offers. That renewal structure covers the increased costs services like this entail so we can offer them at no additional fee. The Lifetime and Perpetual licenses do not include that type of renewal structure.

We are discussing options internally to allow for those on Perpetual or Lifetime licenses to work into a solution without feeling like they are "losing out" on anything. We will update everyone once we come up with something. In the interim, just have a small slice of patience and understanding while we look into options. Thanks!

Honestly, it was never our intention to make anyone feel 'second-class'. We just introduced a new service to help combat spam. If there's enough demand for a separate pay-for service then we'll be foolish to not consider it. Please understand that we value all our customers and will always take on any feedback that's given.

And the key point I am making is that I'm already a 'regular' paying customer. I have the option to continue using IPB weather I pay for support or not... but I *DO* continue paying (and am happy to do so, no free lunch and all that).

So, as I am an +Active Customer, who pays his fees (even though I don't need to be to continue using IPB under my license terms), why am I excluded from this?

Tony reacted to Wolfie in Introducing Spam Monitoring Service
I just believe that if someone have +Active Customer status because of an IP.Board license, then that should qualify them for this feature. After all, if a Perp license holder pays the $30 for a year of service, then they are a current customer. The Lifetime holders are always current.

Now, if you want to say that Standard license holders get it for free while their license is active and then charge (say $10/year) for Perp/Lifetime license holders to obtain the service, I could go with that. But to make an announcement that it's for those with active IP.Board licenses, then to turn around and say "active" doesn't include lifetime/perp license holders, that's just shameful. Should have just said that it's free to those with an active Standard IP.Board License.

I'm juggling my licenses around anyway and plan to make use of the added feature on the board that currently has the lifetime license (but will swap that with the other board license). Just would have been nice to have it for both boards.

Question though, once someone has the key to use the function, does it only work while their license is active, or is it only required to be active when they put the key in but remains in effect from then on?

That argument is on pretty shaky ground. You might, in that case, start charging extra for FURLs, AJAX skins, or any other progression in the software... as far as I'm concerned, my license entitles me to use IPB and it's features in all future versions, forever... You're moving the goal posts in order to sheppard legacy customers into your newer pricing bracket...

... and yes, I do pay my annual support fee already.

Yes we will have support for things like that as it gets going :)

Will probably require that requests for removal are only from active customers who have been a customer for greater than X days. That way you don't get spammers stealing a credit card, buying an IPB, and requesting removal.
