We have heard you and are going to look into our options on this matter :)

I am going to close this topic as the same points are being made over and over plus new readers to this topic are becoming greatly confused.

We obviously never meant for something like an anti-spam service to turn into a bad thing for some clients :)

Give us a bit and we will figure something out that works for most people.

Oh! So Matt says it and you listen! I see how it is...

I shall go pout in the corner now. Woe is me, etc.

We have looked at options. The biggest issue for us is entrusting the data to a third party. Grading users registering would be out of our hands. Askimet deals with content, though, not members. There are other free services out there but none of them could handle the load that tens of thousands of IP.Boards would generate. We wouldn't want to rely on something that was unreliable. There would also be nothing stopping them from changing how their services work at a drop of a hat forcing us to make a quick release or update, etc.

If I were a lifetime license holder, it would be a tough choice because converting would force me to spend a good amount of money per 6 months.

If I were a perpetual license holder though, I'd rather convert to the standard license rather than having to pay extra fee for this unproven service. I would assume that the old(er) license holders will continue to be left out, and I wouldn't blame IP for taking such actions. Things ... don't remain the same forever. You can either choose to go with the flow or resist it (or abandon IP products all together).

I don't have a perpetual license, but I also agree with this.

Please read the announcements in full. We publicly stated there *would* be bugs in the RC releases and you should only upgrade if you felt you could handle the bugs until they were fixed (by/in the final release). We release betas (and release candidates) for a reason. It's to find and fix issues that we did not come across ourselves. With so many people using the software in so many different configurations there are always bound to be issues we simply didn't encounter, and that's why pre-final releases are done.

Long story short, we're not going to rush RC2 because RC1 has some bugs. Nor will we rush final because RC2 WILL HAVE BUGS. We're going to continue working to make the software as stable as possible so that the final release is as bug free as we can get it.

In this case I am pretty sure it's because RC1 has too many known bugs that have been fixed in RC2.

Don't expect it that soon. There are too many issues that need resolving before RC2 will be released.

For the sake of the skin contest, I hope it's, umm, soon. A good skin isn't exactly the fastest thing to concoct, especially when you already have a schedule to work around.

Once IPB3 RC1 comes out I will be upgrading my community over to it.
I've already changed a lot of the skin to how I want it to look.
A few things need changing but overall I have completed my skin design.

One thing I have noticed however is that in IE (8) the rounded corners do not show up.
I know they are PNG but I use some PNG images myself (background) and they show just fine.

We posted a blog entry about this recently. Basically, RC1 can be considered "safe" to use in that your forum won't implode or anything :) but there could still be some bugs.

You could always wait a few days after we post RC1 to see if there are any reports of major bugs or problems and evaluate from there.
