Invision Community 5.0.5 Beta 1 Released

Dance Band GIF

Mr Milchick approved

We're back with a brand new release! This release fixes a few of the bigger issues reported over the past couple of releases.

Elasticsearch

For those using Elasticsearch, please note that the new minimum version for Elasticsearch is now 8.0, with the latest version 8.17 recommended. Those using Elastic search in v5.0.4 and earlier (including all of v4) will need to upgrade their Elasticsearch server, and then rebuild the search index.

We chose to update to the latest version of Elasticsearch as v7 is no longer supported and there's been some document level changes in how data is stored. We've tested it thoroughly but let us know if you find anything odd!

Using Betas

If you do not see an upgrade, it means that you do not have betas enabled.

Invision Community Cloud

Cloud customers can opt-in to betas in the client area.

CleanShot 2025-03-12 at 13.57.02@2x.png

Invision Community Classic

Self-hosting customers can either download the release from the client area, or add the following line to constants.php

define( 'USE_DEVELOPMENT_BUILDS', TRUE );

If you do not have this file, create it in a text editor, so the contents looks like:

<?php

define( 'USE_DEVELOPMENT_BUILDS', TRUE );

Let me know how you get on!

Coming up soonish

There's some discussion around sluggish javascript in some areas. This looks to be specific to Chrome and occasionally Safari, which honestly has taken a nose dive in quality recently. We think we know why, but it's taking some time to figure it all out. Essentially, we think it's some parts of our older javascript framework struggling with the new CSS framework. We'll get it figured out, but I wanted you to know that we're on it.

@Matt I've Beta's enabled since the last one, but nothing refreshing in Admin for this update.

Great news!

Switching to Firefox only for v5 sites was becoming annoying. 😋

EDIT

Just a small clarification @Matt: rather than Chrome, it's all Chromium-based browsers. I tested the tooltips on Opera, and it's even worse than Chrome. There's enough time for the title attribute to be shown with the mouse over the element before the JS finally kicks in and replaces it with the tooltip. 😱

Yahoo, this is an amazing update!

  1. Thanks for the heads-up on Elastic Search as I was using version 7.17 (now on 8.11). Search index is rebuilding now.

  2. I tested the new club search feature and it's been working flawlessly so far. That's a huge add, thank you!

  3. Thank you for helping me deal with my Severance withdrawals. It's no joke.

I can't express my appreciation enough for the work this team puts in to improve and keep innovating on what's already the gold standard in community software.

OMG that season finale was insane. I hope it's not another 3 years before the next series. I have questions!

Thanks Mike, that's really appreciated.

I started Season 1 a few weeks ago and caught up in time for the finale. What a ride! That 3 year wait after the Season 1 finale must've been torture, though. This show is going to live rent free in my head until Season 3

I think I saw S1 about 18 months ago. I think I watched the first episode a long while back and shelved it, but came back to it later and couldn't stop. I loved every episode of S2 and Tramel Tillman is just on another level. "Devour feculence" had me for days.

I kept pushing off starting S1 and after the first few episodes I still wasn't sure how I was going to feel about it. You nailed it though. Every episode in S2 was a 10/10 and I can't think of another show that maintained that quality from beginning to end. Oh, and "Devour feculence" is staying in my memory bank forever. 😆

Not a major, but I’m not opted in to beta updates, yet I get the notifications still.

is it enabled in your constants file

define( 'USE_DEVELOPMENT_BUILDS', TRUE );

They are using the IC Cloud hosting which means they have no access to files or folders in Invision. It’s all handled for them. So that means If there is a constants.php file they didn’t add it or have a way to edit it.
