The group that members start in?

I'm maybe missing something obvious here, but...

I have a military history forum, and I have multiple groups based on army rank. They start as Private and work them selves up the ranks. I recently added a rank below Private, cadet, but new recruits are still starting in Private. How do I set the Cadet group as the starting point?

You may want to check if your content count has been changed to match your new ranks.
