Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted February 16, 20169 yr Hi I wonder if its possible to make a simple change to a URL for a forum. ( not much I can add to that is there lol) I have looked at edit forum and cant do it there. thanks if you can help
February 16, 20169 yr Why would want to change url ... if change then likely couldn't find it afterwards ?
February 16, 20169 yr Hello again @kar3n2, There's no set way/setting to do this, but you have a few alternates though: 301 Redirects - Go to your web host, create a 301 redirect such as 'mydomain.com/whatever/youwant' to 'mydomain.com/forums/index.php/topic-link' (the current url of your forum.) This will allow users to enter one url, then be forwarded directly to your forum url, or whatever you specify. Edit the forum name to 'slightly' change the url of the forum location. Example: This thread url is 'community.invisionpower.com/topic/426711-is-it-possible-to-change-a-forum-url/' but if you edit the forum name to "New Thread Url' then the title becomes "community.invisionpower.com/topic/426711-new'thread-url/" Sucky solutions, but they work. If you will email me what you're specifically trying to do, I can work up a solution for you Cheers
February 16, 20169 yr If you change the name of a forum the URL will change to the new words but there is no way to set your own SEO URL, if that is what you mean.
February 16, 20169 yr Author Oh I think my best thing to do is delete each forum ( no content in them yet as Ive not launched my site so no worries there) and put them up new with better urls...
February 16, 20169 yr A category or forum name change does that. You can't "set" URLs. Maybe check out the app posted.

February 16, 20169 yr Author a dear dev helped me greatly by adding me 100+ forums with some code and shortcut... its just happens that it never put the full names of my forums which I never noticed till now. HOWEVER I'm sure I can bribe my daughter with a bottle of wine to edit them all ... big job broke out lol argghg
February 16, 20169 yr Author argghg no bribing cos she is behind with her assignments arghghg anyone fancy a few beers lol ???? aw noooo (rofl) NOT!
February 16, 20169 yr Author Even better... I just add the desciptions which I should have done anyway then the forum is properly named....IM SOOO HAPPY and I should pay attention to what my dev says in future ... brilliant work by him btw
