Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
Joey_M Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Is there a way of making it so IP.Suite 4.0 only allows genuine and real e-mail addresses? My 3.4 site is plagued with people using fake e-mails and for the relaunch of my first site, I would like to stamp this out. Any help would be appreciated.
Jim M Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 You can force that new registrations have to verify their email address. In this the system will send them an email and they will need to click to then be allowed to become a full fledged member.
Joey_M Posted September 11, 2015 Author Posted September 11, 2015 Is it not possible to only permit 'real' addresses though, I believe there used to be a mod for former versions.I guess this should be a request.
Joel R Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Can I ask what do you mean by "real" email addresses? I'm pretty sure anyone can sign up for a free Outlook / Yahoo / Google account for a "real" email address in less time than it takes for me to finish writing this post, which means that you will never be able to ensure the veracity of your member's information unless you want to proceed with manual identification (such as government ID). The same problem occurs when clients request "real" first and last names in registration ... someone can simply enter Bob Raykivich and that's no more or less truthful than a username like BoomerangBob24.

It's strange how many people join using a false address these days, although to some degree it says how much they may be interested.
Joel R Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Hmm, then you can use the solution provided by @Jim M since that forces the user to check their email address, to finish registration.
Bluto Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Sounds like you want something like http://kickbox.io/ . Maybe someone could create an application using kickbox's API. https://github.com/kickboxio/kickbox-php
