Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
jaeitee Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 When configuring the Category Settings in Gallery It would be of great use to be able to have an additional default sort order, "Date Created" for the Albums. This allows us to keep the order as a chronological record in some cases.
Joel R Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Date created and Title. IP.Gallery offers those sort orders on the front-end, but they don't allow you to choose them as default sort orders.
jaeitee Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 Date created and Title. IP.Gallery offers those sort orders on the front-end, but they don't allow you to choose them as default sort orders. Those sort options are available within an Album, however they're not available in Category view.
The Old Man Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Apologies, started a new topic on this... It is very frustrating, if you have a sequence of images in a category and they are chronological, by that I mean they should be displayed in the order taken to make sense.
Mke Stoltz Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 +1 - need default sort order 'by Title' for Gallery categories
Damien Symonds Posted January 7, 2016 Posted January 7, 2016 +1 this is absolutely critical for my forum.
rgf100 Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 I'd go so far as to say there should be a custom sort, where we can click and drag photos into the order we want. But at the very least, let us sort by the time the picture was taken, older to newer. The two uses for my gallery are 1) recipes and 2) travelogues. Both situations where the order is crucial.
The Old Man Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 I wonder why it's so difficult to add that sort order option? I thought it would be a quick fix for the developers.
rgf100 Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 My guess is that it's because the 'date taken' data in in the images EXIF and can be different from when the file was last edited or uploaded. So they'd need a new database column to store that info in.
The Old Man Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Yes, that makes sense. I imagine that they could just add another column easily enough. We used to have this option in the older versions of Gallery.
rgf100 Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 I never used older versions of the gallery. Surprised to find this is a problem though.
Hegnauer.io Posted November 22, 2018 Posted November 22, 2018 Years later and still no real solution? Shame, every other aspect of the suite is great. Please add better sorting options.
