How to redirect a user to special info page after registration

If a user proceeds the steps of registration he ends up being redirect to the main page.

Would it be possible to inform the user, that he has received an email, where he can validate the email?

If you have email validation enabled, the user should be directed to a page stating this after registration.

Is there a way to show a special welcome page after having pressed the email confirmation link.

I want to lead this new user through the first steps, like

- Say "hi" to all users in our welcome forum
or
- Have look at our popular suforums...
.......

A lot of new users at our forum don't know what to do now. I want to show them a couple of options.

I do it like this: I route new users through a special “new users membergroup” and promote them automatically after 5 days. During that 5 days they will see a “Welcome” button in the main navigation button and on that page I explain all the things I want tell new users.
