Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
Saurabh Jain Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I got the following email from the webhost - It looks as it is time to move on higher version of server or the problem is something else....please advise what to be doneHello,Your account has been abusing CPU resources for an extended period of time. As a result all of your sites have been cached in order to ensure continued performance stability of the server. While we do limit each account to no more than 25% of a system's CPU in our terms of service, we do not actively take actions against accounts until they greatly exceed that number, which is what happened in this case. Please take a moment to review this email in full as it contains important information and resources to assist you in resolving this issue. Please note that this permanent restriction requires you take further actions to gain access to and resolve the issues on your account.****Please note your site(s) are still online in a cached form. However, any further violations will result in your account being suspended****- Important information on the caching for your accountYour account will be cached for 12 hours, with the cache for your sites updating every 3 hours. This will allow your site to stay online for visitors while you correct the issues causing the problems described below.Once your sites are fixed and no longer causing service issues and remains incident free for 12 hours the restrictions will be removed and your account will function normally.- How can you resolve the issue? We have two solutions available. You may try following some of our tutorials for optimizing popular scripts..If you feel your scripts have already been optimized, it may simply be time to consider the hardware upgrade. Moving the account to a dedicated server will allow far greater hardware resources and dedicated hardware for your account.CPU seconds used in the past hour: 2505.71000000001, 70% CPUSat Mar 29 12:01:17 CDT 2014Running Processes:mechanic 8184 4.0 0.1 430080 57924 ? Makoto Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 The information your host provided isn't very helpful. It's just saying index.php is using a lot of resources. Which tells us approximately nothing. But not much that can be done there. Third party hooks are probably most often the cause for excessive CPU usage. Especially hooks like the Shoutbox hook, Ajax notifications with now refresh rates, anything that involves making a lot of repeated connections to the server on the clients end. To start, how many active visitors do you have on average in a 15 minute period? (A rough estimate is fine). What third party hooks/applications do you have installed (if any)? Can you provide a link to the site in question? Edit: Oh my dear god your host is caching pages from logged in members on your forum, Aside from everything I've said above I'm going to suggest you move to another host as soon as possible and take your site entirely offline, now. What asinine backwards host out there actually does crap like this? This is a first for me. Wow.
Grumpy Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I'm not sure what help you want. Move out as they suggest. Get a VPS or dedicated server depending on your budget. What asinine backwards host out there actually does crap like this? This is a first for me. Wow. Um. Pretty much every shared hosting provider. Though, keeping caches of it is somewhat unique. But if all the EIG servers do this, I guess them alone is enough to make the notion of "unique" non-applicable. They used to just suspend you, so I see this as in improvement.
Makoto Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Edit: Redacted for the security of the OP. Seriously Saurabh, I highly suggest you take your site offline immediately and move to a more competent web host. Your host has just severely compromised the security of your entire website right now.
Saurabh Jain Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 They have sent me an email saying***Please note your site(s) are still online in a cached form. However, any further violations will result in your account being suspended****- Important information on the caching for your accountYour account will be cached for 12 hours, with the cache for your sites updating every 3 hours. This will allow your site to stay online for visitors while you correct the issues causing the problems described below.Hi KiritoIf you can look there is a stat counter data at the bottom of page
Saurabh Jain Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Edit: Redacted for the security of the OP.Seriously Saurabh, I highly suggest you take your site offline immediately and move to a more competent web host. Your host has just severely compromised the security of your entire website right now.I have taken the site in offline mode---They have 25 concurrent processes limit which i have been crossed and I think that is the reason
Saurabh Jain Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Doing google search to find a reliable vps hostingthe biggest problem is - The IPB does not allow to talk about webs hostingI need to identifyWhat VPS capacity is enough for my site? What are the options I should look to move inRegardsSaurabh
Makoto Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I mean I suggest removing the domain from your hosting account entirely. Your site is not actually appearing offline because of whatever "caching" they're using. I can still pretty much browse your site freely under your administrative account right now.
TracyIsland Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I will send you a pm with the VPS that we use. If I posted on here about the type of service and the cost, the reaction would be swift that I am crazy to spend that kind of money and 25 people would suggest this or that service in Romania or Istanbul that they get for $5 a month and offers 6 times the capacity ....
DudeThatsErin Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I have emailed and PMd you services that I am able to provide for you. Just waiting to hear back from you.
Saurabh Jain Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Hi Surferboy - waiting for your pm@Kirito - thx I have removed domain and even removed my self as adminRegardsSaurabh
Saurabh Jain Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 On talking with my current webhost - which vps plan will be better - his reply isA VPS plan is normally not a good solution for a site that uses high CPU . A Dedicated Server is better for this. Why high cpu usage ?
Grumpy Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 On talking with my current webhost - which vps plan will be better - his reply is A VPS plan is normally not a good solution for a site that uses high CPU . A Dedicated Server is better for this. Why high cpu usage ? Dedi is better than vps, regardless of usage. Certain applications are extremely unacceptable in vps environments and those are that are disk heavy. So it really depends on your budget. If your budget is <$50, vps >$100, dedi 50~100, questionable... dedi if you can manage it. vps if you need management. and... don't buy vps/dedi from your current host... Avoid your current parent company, EIG, like the plague. I wonder who. ) Best place to shop for hosts is webhostingtalk.com.
