In AdminCP I get: VigLink Affiliation You are missing out on potential revenue for your website. We have noticed you are running the VigLink affiliation service but have not finished setting up your account. Click here to start earning money! I click on the link and it takes me to my dashboard. It doesn't seem to be connecting the account. Also, what if I have multiple boards ?
Alex Posted November 24, 2010 Author Posted November 24, 2010 It should attempt to take you to our servers and redirect you - what is the URL of the link that redirects to your dashboard? To link multiple IP.Boards, you simply use the same unique identifier across them (self-explanatory when you get passed the connect stage)
NVGADeveloper Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Hello, I have a couple of questions about this hook. We just installed it and I register with VG and everything. Now my questions is how does it know where to send money too? Also, I'm assuming that the dashboard for VG is simply to keep track of the money made correct?
Alex Posted November 24, 2010 Author Posted November 24, 2010 http://www.viglink.com/support/faq - How does Payment work. Useful information there :)
danbo Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 I was going to give this a shot since the Vigil site doesn't seem to detect my javascript code properly, but I see references in the hook code which download data via the IPB site. Is this something that can be avoided? I trust you guys, I just want a direct connection for various other reasons ;)
Alex Posted November 24, 2010 Author Posted November 24, 2010 We only ever call the IPS site to 'hide' our secret API key, that has to remain private to us - this only happens in the ACP Dashboard anyway, there are no calls to our servers on the front-end.
danbo Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Can this be disabled (don't care about the stats)? One of the reasons is that I have outbound internet access VERY restricted, and would rather not enable it. Either way, keep up the great work!
Cheyney Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Is there a way to get rid of the module on the ACP front page, or at least show it only in settings or applications or something? It's not something that looks right on the dashboard.

Matt Enloe Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 It still says I haven't installed and wants me to embed the code. The API key I get from them is 32 characters long as well.
Kessler Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 It still says I haven't installed and wants me to embed the code. The API key I get from them is 32 characters long as well. It's expecting you to sign up through the link provided by the hook. When you do that and use the generated key, it'll work. If you sign up on your own then it won't recognize you as being converted. The easiest thing to do is to make a new account using the link from the ACP.
Planetby Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Works fine here, thanks for the nice plugin :)
ᴡᴅツ Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 What does this mean?Full disclosure: through VigLink's affiliate system, IPS financially benefits when this hook is used.
ørret Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Sorry for being a total newbie, but how does this work? xD (I've read the FAQ). English is not my main language so I guess that's why I don't understand. I tried the "demo" (which you can find in FAQ) and it said "Installed" on my site, so the demo should be working. What should I do now? My site is in no way related to any products you can buy btw. Thanks in advance, hope someone can clarify.
Alex Posted November 28, 2010 Author Posted November 28, 2010 If the block in the Admin CP says you're converted (and shows 0 USD or however amount you've earned) then you are done and can pretend it doesn't exist. It will simply track links in the background and give you any commission that you are entitled to if someone purchases something. For example here, if a person reading this topic follows this link http://www.gamestop.com, and then buys something from GameStop, these forums get a commission. Hope thats clear.
Paranormalis Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Why should IPS make money off of our forums or traffic/purchases made through our forums? Full disclosure: through VigLink's affiliate system, IPS financially benefits when this hook is used.
ørret Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Thanks for explaining. Does it work with ANY shop? I guess they (viglink) have to have some sort deal with the shops and that it's limited?
rbiss Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 I've uploaded the hook. I have a viglink account. Now what? I don't seem to see any evidence of the feature on the board or in acp other than it says it's an enabled hook.
rbiss Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Is there any difference if we just cut and paste our viglink code into body of globalTemplate? Is that the hook is essentially doing?
rbiss Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Correct, it works through the well known Google Affiliate Network, and a few others networks - only sites on these networks are tracked. The big ones are all there though :) http://www.viglink.c...rtners/networks In your Admin CP dashboard, you should see a new block entitled 'VigLink Affiliation' asking you to click here if you want to turn the system on (note that you will have to log out of that account you made before hand, VigLinks systems creates an account through the IP.Board control panel, we can't link your forums to an existing account unfortunately). After that, just check your page source code and search for viglink, it should show some results :) Click here is sending me to register or sign in at viglink. Is that was is supposed to happen or is something not working correctly?
Alex Posted November 28, 2010 Author Posted November 28, 2010 That is correct - it should be asking you for an email address.
Matt Enloe Posted December 5, 2010 Posted December 5, 2010 Ever since implementing this, some external links on my board and on IPS give a blank page when you click them, and clicking back and clicking again doesn't do it. I see it trying to contact viglink at the bottom, but then the page stays white and the url in the address bar is the one they came from or about:blank. :/
