I'm sure that the friends system has been improved in IPB 3 already, but just noting again that I don't like how it currently is where it pops up the list. I always thought it would be better in the my assistant popup as a new tab honestly. And maybe My Assistant reworked in itself also.

All the things that pop up like that look awful in my opinion, friends list, who posted... I agree with making it like or part of my assistant, along with who posted and other popup windows like that, also I want to see My Assistant look better in 3.0... currently looks not-so-pretty.

its better to have a own DOM windows.. another suggestion to make it a dom window and when somebody add you as a friend you gotta approve/decline him.

I think friends should be a tab so others can see more then just admin set friends. ;) I also agree with "forced" mutual friends option, either per user or on admin side.

I agree with both of you it is not pretty and could use the features mentioned.

As good as it is to have My Assistant attached to the form window, the fact that it disappears when the form changes is quite useless. Having it in a window is far easier, and you can click on items and have the parent window change, but have the "assistant" window stay intact. The only way to keep it DOM and not reload it is to make the body of the page load via ajax, and keep the board wrapper loaded at all times, having the DOM window part of that wrapper. And that isn't going to happen.

The current friends feature is nice but IPS will have to work hard in order to improve it. I would suggest to change the external content (pop-up) to internal content "that will be at the ground", popup has never been comfortable for me.

I like lightbox pretty much in gallery.

I would say if it can't be done well in my assistent, then there needs to just be a flat out new section on the forum itself for the friends list to appear so it won't have to be a popup.

I'm sure the reason it's not a section currently is because they figured people willw ant to browse the forum and have their friend list there also, but the friend list is not even refreshing, so what good is it to keep it there long term as another window?

I suggested a long time ago that they have a notification come up (like in aim, msn, trillian etc) when a friend gets on the forum, but they said that would be resource intensive and not worth it, so I don't know... I just dont like how it currently is. So I hope they do some sort of change.

Yes one of the comments I have gotten on my site about the friends is some one can not give a link out to friends that takes you to the friends list. You can of course give out a link to your profile and then they can click on the friends tab but to some people they do not want that extra step.
