Energizer Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Hello, is IPB 2.3.5 the last version before the IPB 3.0 coming? Or do they still IPB 2.3.6 or 2.3.7 even before the IPB 3.0?
bfarber Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 As of right now, we are diligently working on 3.0. We continue to evaluate the necessity for a point release, but the more time we spend on 2.3.x, the less time we have to spend working on 3.0. :)
Jaggi Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Of course bfarber means that if lots of bugs arise or some security issues are found they will release a point release :P.
Microo Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Well I personally think its quit logic that if there are enough of "important" bugs and/or security problems, there might be a 2.3.6... They are sure working on IP.B 3 but they HAVE to watch the current release that everything is stable etc... Basically if nothing serious would be reported then next stable release would be 3.0 I think! Regards, -Lone, W.
W13 Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 I'm not upgrading to IPB 3.0 until IPB 3.0.1 :-D (so most bugs can be fixed)
Microo Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 I'm not upgrading to IPB 3.0 until IPB 3.0.1 :-D (so most bugs can be fixed) It's always been the best choice like this... :) Especially if you have a large community!
Alex Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Hopefully, the majority of the bugs will be fixed in the alpha and beta stages :) And then the public testing, there hopefully won't be too many issues in the final release.
Microo Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Well basically the "first (new)" release ALWAYS has some bugs that can't be noticed unless you use it in a large & open forums... I mean any new release has bugs, there is no such thing (something without bugs) so people will wait before upgrading their live site... Personally I won't upgrade until 3.0... Unless & I repeat unless there is a serious security hole or anything... Cheers, -Lone, W.
Lewis P Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 I'll get a copy of 3.0 and remake my skins, then by the time I've done that 3.0.1 will have come along :D
henke37 Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Trust me, they will use this forum as the testing forum like 1
Microo Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 I'll get a copy of 3.0 and remake my skins, then by the time I've done that 3.0.1 will have come along :D Exactly the best choice! Update all your stuff & once everything is ready 3.0.1 will be release, so just upgrade :)
Alex Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Obviously I have no idea what the intentions of IPS are, but I think it will be installed here for more than 1 and a half weeks before a public beta.
ᴡᴅツ Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 Well I am not sure but most probably 2.3.6 will be released once enough work has been put into 3.0.
AbarJigs Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 when ipb 3.0 is going to be launched?? i am eagerly waiting for this
Energizer Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 I think IPB 3.0 is at the beginning of many Bugs. Since it would be good if IPB 2.3.6 or IPB 2.3.7 as the last stable version would be released.
SnakEyez02 Posted June 28, 2008 Posted June 28, 2008 when ipb 3.0 is going to be launched?? i am eagerly waiting for this I believe they have said this numerous times around here. It is Q4 2008.
Jυra Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 I'm not upgrading to IPB 3.0 until IPB 3.0.1 :-D (so most bugs can be fixed) I'm not upgrading till IPB 3.0.4 :O
bfarber Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 I think IPB 3.0 is at the beginning of many Bugs. Since it would be good if IPB 2.3.6 or IPB 2.3.7 as the last stable version would be released. We said the same thing when 2.3.5 was released. Now it's 2.3.6. ;) And then it will be 2.3.7. Like I said before, the more time we spend on the 2.3.x series, the less time we are spending on 3.0. IF there becomes an issue or enough issues that we deem requires a release to correct, we will release one (security issues will always receive a patch, regardless). I don't really see the point in this question I guess. If we need to release another 2.3.x version we will. If we don't, we won't, so we can spend more time on the next major release.
UBERHOST.NET Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Announcement: The next release of IPB shall be a higher number than 2.3.5
Morrigan Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Announcement: The next release of IPB shall be a higher number than 2.3.5LMAO that gave me a good laugh. :D
mtechnik Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 It's always been the best choice like this... :) Especially if you have a large community! But also too if you really think about this, us clients and members are the main source to helping these developers weed out these bugs and errors. The more help we supply them, the faster and easier things would get on any versions.
(e) Eric Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Announcement: The next release of IPB shall be a higher number than 2.3.5  I likely won't upgrade for a while, way too many mods that will be broken. :(
