Visual Skinning Guide in ACP
by Guest joe_m- 4 replies
- 2.5k views
IPB's skinning is staggeringly difficult to master and requires far too much time to grasp (let alone master), especially compared to your competition. Please for the love of God come up with a visual skinning solution! Ideally I could hover on an element and change font and background. I spent at least 10 hours over the holiday *trying* to skin our (idle) forums to replicate the color scheme of our Threads forums (which I skinned in under an hour); and likely face another 10 to 20 hours. This is ridiculous, and if I can't wrap this up soon I'm buying a vB license. For those who'll accuse me of being a moron, I have been administering and skinning forums for over 6 …

Posting rank title/levels, badword filters
by Guest //Nathan- 0 replies
- 1.6k views
There are a couple settings in the AdminCP, I feel should be shown to users. Not that they could change it, but it would be there as a reference. For the ranks, it should be possible to see what ranks exist and how many posts are required to reach each one. The badword filter is a little more complicated. Obviously to think of the children, we don't want to post the words to be blocked... but some things should be posted. Perhaps an optional field in the badword filter section where you include a Description, and the admin can write in a description. We can assume that the "common" bad words will be filtered, but some boards filter words that aren't bad, per se...…

When people post their suggestions, it would be really great if they could use topic titles that describe their suggestions. Thanks. Just had to get that off my chest.

[2.1 suggestion] Topics sorting options

OK, time for my first 2.1 suggestion. ;) Nothing big really, but neat and useful. I've suggested in the past, and it was put in the 'suggestions under consideration' forum back then. Here it goes, being able to sort topics by clicking the titles in the topic columns (see the Last Action column in the screenshot example):

For attachments and downloads: Limit number of Download's Per Day/Week Limit Bandwith for downloads Per Day/Week Ability to set one of them as a rule or both. For example that we can allow user to download 5 files per thay but they should not be larger than 50mb. (this should not efect uploads) Make feature to control RSS forums. They quickly become full of old news... There should be option to automatically delete news that are older than X days.

Send notification to users on moderation
by Guest robirming- 5 replies
- 2.3k views
I think it would be great to have an extra option in the ACP when setting up moderated forums. Send notification to poster on moderation? This will automaticly send an email notification to posters telling if their post/topc was approved or not [Yes] [No] The email being sent out would look pretty much like topic notifications etc., saying if the post was improved or not.

BCC Admin(s) and/or Mod(s) on mass PM?
by Guest //Nathan- 0 replies
- 1.3k views
There seems to be a privacy concern over admins reading PMs, but if it's going to 2 or more people, it's not private, is it? I'm just thinking this would discourage spamming. Someone comes to a board to spam members, if they send it to 2 or more people, the admin gets a copy just as if the admin were included, with a FWD: or MASS: attached to the title. ACP settings would allow the requisite number (2 in example) to be changed, maybe we want to set it to 3 or 4, and allow or disallow a warning on the PM screen itself, to the right of the Carbon Copy box, to appear stating that mass emails are copied to an admin to deter spam/abuse.

Show if user is Online when replying to PM
by Guest robirming- 4 replies

I don't see the need of having a PM button when reading a persons PM. Why not change this to show the online status. This would be much more useful. Instead of: Make it like this: I think that would be much better, and I'm pretty sure others agree?

Auto-Welcome PM
by Guest Cheule- 13 replies

Would it be possible to include the ability to have the board send out Welcome PM's to new members? It would give a more personal touch to a forum and the new member could be sent a welcome message in the PM with some helpful tips and such. Of course it could have the option in the ACP to switch it off also. I believe Outlaw made such a mod for this some time ago but rather than having to keep updating my forums with extra mods I thought I'd mention it here in case it's a good idea ;) I'm probably sure this has been mentioned before but what with the recent clean-out I can't find a duplicate anywhere.

Finding members by country
by Guest robirming- 2 replies
One thing I think is missing in IPB is the possibility to easily find members by country. I'd say it's quite common that members of a "community" are interested in finding members by location. I recently saw a great way of doing this on another board. Members list example. I'm sure something similar for IPB would be very much appreciated. :)

Plugins?
by Guest Morkula- 1 reply
- 1.8k views
I'm planning on upgrading my current forums to either IPB or vB, and so far I'm really impressed by IPB. There's only one thing that's keeping me from going with IPB, and that is it's lack of a plugin system like vB has. Personally I don't mind having to edit the code to initially install the mods, but losing all of my modifications and having to reinstall them everytime I upgrade gets kind of bothersome. So, I was just wondering if there are any plans to include the plugin system in a future release? It would be an excellent feature and would really save time and work for all the board owners that modify their boards. Thanks in advance for any replies. :)

Survey Option
by Guest hdalpadado- 1 reply
- 1.6k views
Hi all, Since it is not possible to see who voted what in a poll and understandably so for decision making polls where anonimity is require. I propose the notion of survey posts. To clarify, this would be like a poll, except that you would be able to see who selected what in the survey form. Statistics and details to be either shown in the post and/or to admins in the ACP. I feel this is a lacking feature, I'm sure others would like to have. Having a survey option, would also still allow for polls to be created and voted on with anonimity. :D

Suggestion: Ignoring the user hides their posts COMPLETELY
by Guest :scene:- 8 replies
- 3.4k views
Ignored users need to be completely blocked without having the "You are ignoring this user" messages in place of their post. I've seen this done with vbulletin and would like to see it done with IPB as well.I would also like to see it block out threads as well as posts. That way the user doesn't have to worry about entering a thread only to find that the thread starter is on their list.

Invision and SMS, any news on this?
by Guest Telemacus- 0 replies

A few months ago people were talking a lot about this: making it possible for someone to send a post to an ip board by means of a mobile phone sms message. Any news about this? it could mean a revolution!

Real "Version" and Upgrades
by Guest Runiteshark- 1 reply
- 1.6k views
Basically put, after going through a hellish experience with a pathetic upgrade script, I think that there should be a check on the sql tables that are ment to be modified instead of checking the version ID table. The reason being, is you can mess up an upgrade, and the version ID will say that you are perfectly fine when this is clearly not the case. So yeah, it would be a semi-easy task to implement, and make IPB feel much more robust.

Choosing local time...
by Guest Hercules- 5 replies
- 2.4k views
Just a thought... why not make an image map of the 'world' and all you have to do, is click on a location you live in (ie, click on New York area) and it will change your daylight savings and local time for you? I never liked going thru the list, and using a little DHTML you can make the mouse hover a layer when you go over a certain area listing cities that might be near where your cursor points. It's a little tedious to get done first shot, but won't take more than a day I imagine, and it will be a nice little touch taking up no extra overhead. The dropdown can stay on the side as well. Just my $.02 :)

I don't know where else to post this, so I decided to post here. Simply put IPB is awesome, and you guys are the people who created it. It is by far the best bulletin board system I have come accross, so many features, so many things to do, so many options. A great admin cp, great disapline over members, skin imports/exports, language packs. I could go to exceed the post charachter limit. I really hope you continue your work on IPB, It is greatly appreciated, I will always remain a customer for as long as you guys keep this going. You should really pride yourself in what you have created, great job and thanks alot.

Updates
by Guest jenolan- 0 replies
- 1.6k views
Just doing more updates, it is really starting to be a chore... 2.0.3 to 2.0.4 then 2.1.0 - 1 - 2 - 3 Gallery, blogs yammer yammer. The biggest problem is not doing an update it is the way 'updates' are being packaged (ie not at all). Could we please, pretty please, have an update file when you move from 2.1.2 -> 2.1.3 rather than the whole distribution again. Reason: Not everyone has broadband, download the file, unpack the file, upload all those files .. urk! Especially when the images, old update scripts et al are not changed. Thanks! Larry

Vote To Ban Member
by Guest ZeroSum- 3 replies
- 2.2k views
If you have a forum member that is generally despised by a lot of other forum members, why not give other members the ability, through a voting system, to ban that member? The administrator could set the minimum number of votes to ban a member and of course could overrule their vote. Chris
