Invision Community 5: A video walkthrough creating a custom theme and homepage By Matt Thursday at 04:02 PM
:scene: Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Ignored users need to be completely blocked without having the "You are ignoring this user" messages in place of their post. I've seen this done with vbulletin and would like to see it done with IPB as well.I would also like to see it block out threads as well as posts. That way the user doesn't have to worry about entering a thread only to find that the thread starter is on their list.
Brandon C Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I completely agree with each and every one of your statements made there. +1 +1 +1. :D

I also think that posts with quotes from the ignored user should be ignored as well and also that posts that mention the ignored user should be ignored as well.
beddows Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Yeah, good idea, I've been on forums where I dont' even wnat to know a certian individual has posted so i am not tempted to look.
//Nathan Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I agree, but some of the extensiveness would be tricky for them to implement. Especially when you consider... Say you want to ignore me... As it is you can ignore my posts, but as far as mention... you could have it block posts mentioning 'Dark Reality' as a phrase/string... but what about DR or Dark as I'm sometimes called... or when people call me Nathan, by my real name. If you start blocking nicknames and other names, you end up blocking too much... is that what you want? The best way to ignore a member is the old-fashioned way. Just overlook their posts/topics. If they're a real nuisance, let the admins deal with them accordingly, and if they don't, maybe it's not a forum worth posting on. Surely there are others. :)
SpireInc Posted November 24, 2005 Posted November 24, 2005 But by doing this you can miss valuable discussions and look at the forums noticing that no topics have been replied to, when in fact they have been. If you block enough people then you won't notice any changes on the forums. I think it's a very bad idea..... and a waste of coding.
:scene: Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 I also think that posts with quotes from the ignored user should be ignored as well and also that posts that mention the ignored user should be ignored as well. I think it would be quite hard to go that far. The mod I saw for vbulletin didn't go this far. it only ignored the posts and theads that the ignored user made. It didn't block out quotes, which is acceptable.I agree, but some of the extensiveness would be tricky for them to implement. Especially when you consider... Say you want to ignore me... I don't want to block posts with specific keywords, I want to block specific user posts. In other words, I want the system to work just the way it is as of now, except I want the posts hidden completly. But by doing this you can miss valuable discussions and look at the forums noticing that no topics have been replied to, when in fact they have been. They always have the option of removing them from the ignore list later. Also remember that you can block users from ignoring important people like mods or admins.
//Nathan Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 @scene - I wasn't replying to your post; I actually agree with yours. Sorry for not being clear about that. I was replying to the member above me. You actually can't block people from ignoring mods and admins, at least not as far as I know. I went looking when I first got 2.0. It may have been added since, but it seemed to me that that was just a threat, saying that some groups are un-ignorable. My test account was able to ignore me (the root admin) with no problems. It's like when you get the password wrong in the password protected forums... the password page says it's monitored, that failed attempts will be reported, but they're not. Empty threats... (so far as I can tell)
ZeroSum Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 I don't know if you understand. I don't want to block posts with specific keywords, I want to block specific user posts. In other words, I want the system to work just the way it is as of now, except I want the posts hidden completly. If that's all you want, it's quite elementary to write.
