allow mods/admin to override PM block/full PM queue
by Guest Exiled- 0 replies
- 1.5k views
IPB has long had a PM block feature -- and for almost as long, an unofficial mod to allow admins/mods to override PM blocks/full PMboxes when needed (in v2.0.x). I haven't tested it in 2.1.x, but since the code changes are relatively minor [yet involve an extra entry in the database] I'd very much like to see this override option "made official" [incorporated in the product], so it is always supported. IMHO: a PM block that allows *members* to overrride communications from *primary IPB customers* [board owners who buy/operate the software] lies in the gray area between feature and bug. I mean, c'mon, ignoring PMs from the mods/admins can *only* make board management…

Allow admin to do massive action on search result
by Guest hulala- 3 replies

such as move, delete multiple topic from a search. This should be very useful. For example, I want to split a forum into subforum, I will do a search by topic words, then I can easily moved them into a subforum or another forum.

Invision "MySpace"
by Guest gladding- 6 replies
- 2.9k views
Our community sites really take off sometimes, it only makes sense to have a "MySpace" type of feature on InvisionBoards. Something that can connect your blog and profile, you can upload photos, have buddy lists... there is something kind of like this now but nothing that users feel compelled to really fill out their profile. If IPB had this, it would really add a lot to the value of InvisionBoards.

use aspell (or similar) instead of iespell
by Guest Exiled- 0 replies
- 1.6k views
The speckcheck option in the RTE of 2.1.x is very much welcomed, but AFAIK, iespell is limited to MS Internet Explorer. Since you've done the hard part (primary integration), might I suggest that you consider a more compatible spell-checker? Aspell works in Linux and Win32, and I first heard about it from someone who was using it in MacOS X. I've read of it being used on many browsers and other apps (like the GAIM multinetwork chat program) in many (human) languages I am not advocating for that program, specifically. I'm sure there are many other worthy freeware solutions for the well-explored and mature software feature. I simply think that spellcheck is too useful t…

"Anchor" topics as alternative to "Closing" them
by Guest //Nathan- 7 replies

<rant>What's the point of having a discussion board where topics are closed? If one feels the need to reply to a closed topic, does one create a new topic and risk pissing off the mod who closed the other one?</rant> I have never liked the idea of closing topics. I believe it takes something away from the concept of a discussion board. Now, I do believe there are uses. For example, to use this board as an example, when someone comes in and wants to know where to download IPB 1.3, obviously that topic is going to be closed. But the other day, a topic got closed for being bumped months later... and I was confused as to why it was closed, just for being ol…

RSS Forum export
by Guest Matt Marshall- 0 replies
- 1.5k views
Just a little idea which would work how IPS have announcements and news discussions in different forums. Because there is so much news, people tend not to reply in the 'News Wire' forum here and instead make a topic in General Chat about it (as a good example). But why not have an "export" function where you can quote the news and post it in a different forum for discussion with your own opinion. Or, alternatively list topics with replies and those with not in a different way. Only a thought.

more Search criteria
by Guest TCWT- 2 replies
- 2.1k views
I would like to see more criteria on the Search Form such as: - search titles/entire posts - topics containing at least/at most X posts - sort results by: relevancy, title, number of views, thread start date - find posts from: since your last visit, yesterday - find posts from user, posts started by user, threads started by user There should be a RESET FIELDS button also. imo, the IPB search is limited compared to other boards.

Inline subtitle editing
by Guest Exiled- 0 replies
- 1.5k views
I note that the inline title editing feature doesn't allow inline subtitle editing. On my board, at least, this greatly limited its usefulness. I would also like to see in-line topic editing added as an option in the User Group settings. If it's there, I can't find it. One possible application: if there's a time limit imposed on user post editing, the user can still change the subtitle to indicate progress/status changes in the thread. Sure, the moderator can do it for them, but since our members are accustomed to using subtitle edits, they would probably make more requests than most. On our board we recently had problems with a few problem members making changes in…

Announcement System Update/Addition
by Guest dwhitehouse- 0 replies
- 1.6k views
We all know that the Announcement stsyem in the "My Controles" is awsome, but there is no way to reply to it. What I am suggesting is one of the 2 things. 1) The system will make your announcement be like a post and able to reply to. 2) Or that the system creats a seperate post in a dedicated forum that you descide and it would have permision accesability like a normal post.

[REQ] Parse comments out of CSS cache
by Guest rct2·com- 0 replies
- 1.6k views
I like to comment my CSS files as I edit them on my skins, so that I can keep track of changes I have made to the default (ready for the NEXT time I have to start from scratch when IPB change the skin). Would it be possible for IPB to remove all these comments when building the cache file, just to save a little bandwidth when people visit the boards?

Who's Chatting Display in 2.1.3
by Guest jucs- 6 replies
- 2.7k views
First, background: http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?showtopic=201789 Today, my forums are basically offline again due to the index.php not loading because of the Who's Chatting display and the chat server being offline. There is NO reason for the chat server and this one line of display should prevent the loading of the index.php. No reason. It should display "chat server offline" or something like that. Not bring down the whole forum load. My suggestion, if it's not already in 2.1.3, prevent this from occuring. Pretty stupid that it does right now. I guess very stupid. Not just pretty stupid.

Low Level Admin
by Guest TheProphet- 4 replies
- 2.5k views
Ok, I'm new to the whole invision board thing, so this feature may be avaliable, and I just havn't found it, though I don't think it's avaliable. What I need is to be able to create an account type that is able to do some of the admin things, but not all of them. Eg, I want said admins to be able to add forums rooms, and have control over those rooms, and thats it. So basicly what I'd like is to be able to select sections of the ACP section that they can use. I hope that makes sence. Regards TheProphet

Render PM Pop-Up later in code (problem with "View Last Post"
by Guest thereuare- 1 reply
- 1.8k views
When users receive a PM after hitting a "View Last Post" link, the PM pop-up window opens and then the page immediately drops down to the last post... thus making the PM window off-screen. Can the PM window appear after the page appears at the appropriate post... or perhaps have the PM box 'float' at the center of the page, requiring the user to either read the PM or click the 'X' to close the pop-up box. Thank you.

Hi all, I got a simple but (maybe) a very handy mod. This mod would make it able for admins to set per forum a special status in which ppl if they make a new topic get the option to fill in a special form instead of making a post with their own content. A simple example. Let's say i have an introduction forum. When ppl wanna make a new topic in this forum they would get to see the form that the admin created in the admin panel for that forum. The form in my example could have questions like; name, place, age and stuff like that. And when the topic is posted u would see an organised post that should be the same for every topic made in that forum. This seems like a gre…

Indicator for PM's you've replied to

I would like a way to know what PM's I have already replied to. Just changing the icon to the left of the PM title like so many e-mail systems do would be perfect.

Incorporate RSS or emailed proxy update support
by Guest Exiled- 0 replies
- 1.9k views
There are free and pay services, like Xproxy.com, that offer RSS feeds and e-mail subscriptions to lists of fresh proxies, submitted by members, compiled from other lists, and tested by Xproxy (whose founder was a fed-up admin, but supports the use of proxies for privacy where they are allowed). This could certainly be a selling point for established boards considering an upgrade or software change. In today's web environment, most admins get sick of recurrent troublemakers when their board reaches a certain size. I don't know how much glue logic would be required, but since there is at least the possibility that it might be readily done, I'd like to submit it for consi…

Super Groups
by Guest Sonic98- 0 replies
- 1.8k views
I think there needs to be an option for a Super Group. This would be groups that permission masks could not override. That way you could change member's group without having to change all their masks. For instance I don't want to move someone to banned or have the forum move them to validating when they change e-mail addresses, but they still have access to everything they had access to before.

Dear Santa 1 2

So with Christmas fast approaching I thought I would take the opportunity to wish everyone a happy upcoming holiday season. On that subject I would like to start a FRIENDLY string with Christmas wishes for IPB. Personally I would like to see a section where they post temporary bug fixes before they release the next version of IPB. I have a topic for which I would like an interim solution: http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?...&f=272&t=193760 Keep your requests reasonable and polite and let IPB know what is on your wish list for Christmas. THIS IS NOT A FEATURE REQUEST STRING BUT RATHER WHAT CHANGES OR PARTICULAR IMPROVEMENTS YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE.…

Shared Login Interface
by Guest Grant- 1 reply
- 1.9k views
Hi, I think a great feature to include in 3.0 is the ability to get authencation information from elsewhere kinda like the login plugin system already in place. The only difference is that the Staff would have a central login for all of the interfaces they deal with. So that way they wouldn't need a different username and password to get into IP.Dynamic or Nexus or anything. I also think the system should also be able to share sessions with the other products so if you loginto one it logs into all of them. That should of course be an option as well. It would be easy enough to do, its just all the Invision Products would have to draw from a central Server for session Ma…

Restore from trash can
by Guest Sebastian Mares- 1 reply
Hi! I love the trash can feature, but one thing that is missing IMO is restoring deleted topics. Sometimes, my moderator decides to delete a certain post from a thread, while I think it's still OK to have it where it was. Instead of having to manually move the post back, I would love an action to restore the post to where it was. Regards, Sebastian
