A few suggestions for 2.2
by Guest Rock Steady- 2 replies
- 1.8k views
Well this is my list of suggestions, based on my usage of IPB Safari support for the RTE I don't really see why it isn't compatible with Safari, which seems to work with any firefox compatable page i've seen, and if it was, it would be much appreciated by the (few) safari users such as myself. Dynamically collapsing/expanding categories Meaning that the categories would collapse/expand with a slide effect, similar to the one featured in the ACP for changing template bits Make it so that selecting multiple template bits is easier Possibly have a "Select All" button, or make it so that you could drag across the rows rather than selecting induvidual ones Add more template…

Banned Reason
by Guest youngwun0- 3 replies
- 2.5k views
I think it would be cool if there was a feature to show the user why they was banned similar to that of vbulletin, smf, or punbb maybe something simple where we can turn the feature on/off and when a username is banned they will see a message "banned - Reason: blah blah blah" instead of the original error message because that can be confusing at times i get all sorts of emails from banned users :(

Quotes in a post

Hi When a user of my forum clicks on the 'reply' button on a post (as opposed to 'add reply'), it quotes that post. Is this suppose to happen because it makes the qout button redundant? Thanks

lets say that a user is harassing another user for personal reasons, there should be an option at topic creation to not let a user post in that topic.

Registration and Telephone numbers
by Guest klwebb- 4 replies
- 3.3k views
Just had a member email me with an issue during registration. He filled in all the fields and clicked on the submit registration and received an error message similar to: One of your inputs (cells) has an error. It did not indicate which one. Through a little invetigation and luck we found it to be that he entered his phone number as 1234567890 and not 123-456-7890. Could IPS update the software to make this error message a little clearer, have telephone numbers acepted in any of the following formats: 1234567890, 123-456-7890, (123) 4567890, (123) 456-7890 etc.

Please add missing checkboxes!
by Guest UncleRubbe- 0 replies

Can you add in next release some "multi" editing checkboxes? actually they are useful for topics... but in admin cp we need it in forums and moderators managment... as example... i edit often forums... removing a lot of them together or empty them... with actual system i need to select every forum and empty + delete... it takes long... with multiple checkbox like.. - select a category and all subforums are selected - it will be more fast... excuse me for my bad english but i'm not english :P

Admin's pass-partout
by Guest Antares88- 4 replies
- 2.2k views
Hello, I am the administrator of an Italian community, the "Night Sun Network". We own an IPB perpetual license and run a 2.1.5 IPB installation. I post here because we noticed the lack of an important feature: the possibility to set a group to override forums passwords. Actually when an admin enters a password protected forum, he is asked to insert the password. It's non-sense protection, because the admin can't remember all the passwords of the protected forums, but he can look them into the admin control panel. So it is only a waste of time, because everytime the admin has to join a private forum, he has to open the admin cp, find the forum and check the password.…

PM Buttons
by Guest Mark- 0 replies
- 1.6k views
On my forums I have done this manually with skin edits. When viewing a PM, we see forward, and reply as text, below that we see delete and reply as buttons. My suggestion, remove the text, add a forward button. 2nd suggestion, instead of "[ Add to buddies ]" use a button for this as well. Simple, yet effective

X_FORWARDED_FOR matching
by Guest ellawella- 0 replies
- 1.8k views
Seeing as this header can be faked, why not change the Enable X_FORWARDED_FOR IP matching? option so instead of logging only the value of the header, it logs both the value of the header AND the remote address? That way you should be able to tell if someone is spoofing their IP.. Maybe it could be stored in the database as "<remote addr>,<header value>" and when retrieving IPs for topics the board could explode() the entry and show more detailed IP information should it be available. e.g. instead of showing "IP: 1.2.3.4" on posts maybe it could show "IP: X_FORWARDED_FOR = 1.2.3.4, REMOTE_ADDR = 12.23.34.61"

I would really, really like to see the RTE implemented throughout the board for various admin and moderator functions. I'll list some: Writing the board guidelines should use the RTE - It would make it so easier, it's so difficult to add/change anything when you have to scramble through bits of code in this little tiny text area (gets messy if you used HTML). Forum announcement via the UCP - Would be easier to use the RTE. Help Files Warning a user (message to be sent to the user) Those tasks and many more (only listed ones I could think of) would be so much easier if the RTE could be used. Of course don't have the RTE as the default, but have it go by the user'…

Deleting/Editing specific events in a ranged/ recurring event
by Guest surfline- 3 replies
- 2.2k views
It would be so much more efficient and nice if in the calender section of the forum, you could edit or delete specific events in a reccuring / ranged event instead of the whole event. For example, if you have a ranged event from Monday to Friday on a certain week, but then you decide that this event is not going to occur on Wednesday, you can't just delete Wednesday, you would have to delete the whole ranged event Mon-Fri. If anyone could just add an option / check box in the edit/ delete event interface that says: "Delete/Edit specific event/day (leave unchecked for entire series or event)" that would be awesome and save me so much time.

problem with Gmail
by Guest j0e- 11 replies
- 6.4k views
Gmail allows you to use "." in your email address. For example, if you were to email John.doe@gmail.com , the email will be sent to the johndoe@gmail.com inbox. With one gmail account, one could sign up for multiple accounts using one email. FOr example J.ohndoe@gmail.com Jo.hndoe@gmail.com Joh.ndoe@gmail.com John.doe@gmail.com Johnd.oe@gmail.com Johndo.e@gmail.com probably even J.ohnd.oe@gmail.com J.ohn.do.e@gmail.com J.o.h.nd.oe@gmail.com You get the idea im sure. The problem is with abusers. There is no sense in disallowing multuple accounts under one email address while people are able to do this.

Ban Methods
by Guest Mark- 3 replies
- 2.2k views
I am sure you all know that there is no complete way to ban a member, however, I would like to put forward the suggestion to ban a member with a cookie. This is capable on PHPBB and I think it is a very useful way to ban, because.... When a member account is banned, they get the standard "you do not have permission to view this board" message. Now surely they just click "log out" and re-register? Well that was fixed with the devious "This menu has been disabled". So they're stuffed? Right? Wrong. All you do is point your browser to the log out path and viola, you're a guest. Well, my suggestion is when they get the banned message a cookie sets so they can't l…

Avatar HTML -> Template
by Guest Luke- 1 reply

I noticed that the avatar HTML is directly in the get_avatar function in ipsclass.php. This needs to be in the templates... Another suggestion: It would be nice to be able to use PNG's translucent ability in Avatar's. Unfortuantly the limitation of IE 6 and earlier ruins this... I suggest using this when a member is using a PNG image as their avatar and viewer is currently using IE 6 or earlier: <img src="./style_images/<#IMG_DIR#>/spacer.gif" style="filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src='THE_IMAGE.PNG');" ... /> And for anything else: <img src="THE_IMAGE.PNG" ... /> The "..." represents anything else that's suppos…

Custom emoticons....
by Guest Hercules- 2 replies
- 3.3k views
Not exactly what you think... but when you have the 'clickable smilies' the ones that are 'clickable' are the ones that are defined by the admin to be clickable. But what if you don't like any of the ones that the admin chooses? It would be nice to be able to have each user choose which emoticons he has in his 'clickable' list so it's customized just for that user.

Multi moderation suggestions
by Guest ellawella- 1 reply
- 1.7k views
Ability to add spaces at end of topic title alteration string so multi mod produces, e.g. "[Solved] <title>" as opposed to "[Solved]<title>". I know that would require some kind of workaround from trim() but it just looks a bit neater. :) Ability to configure alteration of topic description as well as topic title.

Add "GROUP BY" to simple_construct method
by Guest marcele- 2 replies
- 2.2k views
Just a suggestion .. sometimes I want to use 'GROUP BY' in a simple_select .. it seems like it is missing from the IPS DB Driver.. eg $this->ipsclass->DB->simple_construct( array( 'select' => 'f.foo, COUNT(*) AS some_count', 'from' => array('foo => 'f'), 'add_join' => array( 0 => array( 'from' => array( 'bar' => 'b' ), 'where' => 'f.id = b.id', 'type' => 'left' )), 'group' => 'f.foo', 'order' => 'f.foo ASC' ));
