  1. I'm trying to create a club in which the user must pay to access the club.  In order to hide the content from public view, I need to set the club to "closed club".  However, this is a problem because it creates an additional step in the payment process as the user must "request access" first and then wait to be approved by a moderator before making the purchase....

How can I create a "closed club" and the user gains access to the club by paying the membership fee...  without the club moderator needing to approve the request to join first?

This is the message that appears when a user attempts to join the club:

"The cost to join this club is $0.50/month. Once a club moderator approves your request, you'll be able to pay the membership fee after which you will be added to the club."

  2. Let's say my members create 10 paid subscription clubs on my forum website...  When a user purchases a paid subscription (to join the club), then later purchases another paid subscription, will they need to re-enter their credit card information a second time?  Or, is it stored for them and a simpler checkout process if presented to them?

Also, how do they cancel a paid subscription?   Can they do it themselves from their account somehow?

    Thank You.

We would announce any future updates within our blogs (you can see them on the sidebar in the main page). How long depends on where they fit within our development plans. Of course not all suggestions will become a reality

Cool.  I look forward to reading through the blog.

So, it's probably better to seek custom development than to wait and hope the things I want will be implemented...

You are indeed correct in the 2 applications you would need to purchase in order to have those 2 items.

Will the option in this image ("drag files here to attach, or choose files") still be available to members when posting in forums and clubs if i don't purchase "gallery" and "downloads"?

Yes, there are suggestions in for that, but its not something that is available at present

Ok thanks.   How long do thing like this take to become available?  Is there a page that says what future updates are being worked on and when they will be complete?

I believe the question there is more whether you can search for the club itself? If so, there is no facility for this at the present time.,

Yes.  A search bar in which you can type a keyword and clubs with that keyword will be shown in the results.

  7. I am primarily interested in having clubs, forums, and pages.  If I choose to buy self hosted, do I need to purchase "gallery" and "downloads" in order to have the club features called "files" and "images"?  Or are those club features still included if I don't purchase "gallery" and "downloads"?

    Thanks

But ONLY install this if you have FTP access to make this change:

There’s a bug in Core. Still waiting for IPS to fix it.

    Awesome!   Thanks for developing this.

Can I access FTP with the monthly IC plan?  or is that only possible if I buy self-hosted?

  9. It would be helpful to have "reactions" in private messages.  This is a popular Facebook Messenger and text messaging feature that is used all the time.  Someone sends a message and often times a simple "like" or heart or smiley face is better than words and creates closer to the conversation.

There is no way in which to do this at the present time. You would indeed require custom development if you wanted to do something like this.

Ok thanks.  How can I learn more about "custom development" for invision community software?  Where do I go to find help with custom development?   And, for club sub-forums, would it be an add-on, or a template change, or css, or something else?

Then indeed, you would use "clear cache" which can be found by logging into your admin CP, then clicking support in the top right.

Note there are some guest caches server side, which may well take a few minutes to clear

Ok thanks!  BTW, I noticed that there is no red notice on my notification bell when you replied to me.

Am I correct that I only get the red bell notice if you quote me or if I have "followed" the topic?

It seems like I should get a notice when there are any posts on a topic that I start....  even if I don't click "follow"...

On my own Invision forum website, is there a setting somewhere in the backend that would show users a notice if there are any posts on a topic they started (even if they don't click "follow topic").  Or, can "follow topic" be set to "on" by default and users have to turn if off manually if they don't want notices for their topic?

    Thanks again.

I would ask what it is you are looking to achieve here. Cache is cleared as and when cache needs to be cleared by the system.

I updated clubs in my backend but the update wasn't showing on Google Chrome.  I cleared the google chrome browser history and cache but it still wasn't showing the changes I made.  So I was looking for a clear cache option in the backend.

Yes, it's a great situation isn't it that is not mentioned when you buy.

    You are forced to

    • Pay for the product
    • Pay a 6 month license fee
    • Advertise free for Invision
    • Link to Invision free
    • You have to pay Invision NOT to advertise and backlink to their site

Win, Win for Invision of course.

Have you ever created a business, and hired skilled employees, and paid for insurance, and marketing, etc., etc., etc?  All that stuff cost money, you know.  So the business has to figure out ways to make that money.

I'm new to invision communities, but from what I've seen so far, I'm impressed.  They deserve to be able to pay their employees well and to make profit...  Plus, that's part of what motivated people to create amazing products and services to begin with.

And if you don't like it, don't buy it.  Or try hiring someone to personally build your own forum software.  I'm sure you'll end up paying much much more.

Or, you could go with MyBB... it's free.  But it's nothing compared to invision.

  14. It seems like sub-forums within clubs would be fairly easy to implement because sub-forums already exist in other forums...  And having sub-forums within clubs would dramatically expand the discussion options for club owners.

Please let me show you an example:

There is a groups Addon for Xenforo called Social Groups for Xenforo that works in a similar way to Invision clubs (see image below).  However, it lets you use sub-forums.

Could contain: File, Webpage, Person, Human, Text, Monitor, Electronics, Screen, Display, Page

Here is an example of a forum-website using this Xenforo Addon with sub-forums:

Could contain: Person, Human, File, Monitor, Electronics, Screen, Motorcycle, Transportation, Vehicle, Webpage

    Here's the link:  https://gbatemp.net/forums/da-official-digital-cheese-empire.486/

You can see that there are sub-forums within the "group".  In fact, some of the sub-forums link to more sub-forums.  For example, click on "Gaming Sub-forum" and you'll see 3 more sub-forums.

I've seen other members also asking for sub-forums (or categories) within clubs:

Could contain: Text, Page, Person, Human, Electronics

    @Giray

What would it take to make this happen?  Can we pay extra to have a feature like this developed sooner?  Or can I hire someone to make sub-forums a possibility on my site?

    Thanks

  15. I found an example of a forum website using the Xenforo Addon I mentioned in my last post.  You can see how it uses sub-forums within the "group" (which is essentially the same thing as an Invision club).  In fact, some of the sub-forums link to more sub-forums.  For example, click on "Gaming" and you'll see 3 more sub-forums.

    Here's the link:  https://gbatemp.net/forums/da-official-digital-cheese-empire.486/

You can see how having sub-forums dramatically expands the forum options for a club.  My question is, is it possible to implement something like this by hiring a custom coder?  Any other constructive suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Was wondering if sub-forums (or categories) was still on your roadmap? As you know there are several of us who would really love this.

    Thanks.

Yes, but I'm still struggling with updating all the apps for 4.6.

For renewal problems you have to open a ticket here on invision.

I'm super interested in sub-forums (or categories) for clubs.  If this isn't available in your current app can I pay you to custom code this onto my invision website?

  17. With clubs, it looks like the category level is clubs, so couldn't this allow for the club forums to have sub-forums?

There is a groups Addon for Xenforo called Social Groups for Xenforo that works in a similar way to clubs (see image below).  It let's you use subforums.  If I were to hire a coder, do you think it would be possible for them to add SubForums to clubs on my invision communities?  This would really be a good feature because it would allow for even more discussion and structure within clubs.  And it seems like it shouldn't be too difficult to implement because sub-forums is already a thing in forums to begin with.  Why couldn't there be sub-forums in clubs as well?
