Canal World got a reaction from acarlsson in Image compression
Hi,
Invision 4.7 seems to lack automatic image compression functionality when images are attached to a post. This results in us using more storage than absolutely necessary. I vaguely recall that Invision had an automatic image compression feature in an previous version but I can't seem to find any way to do this in 4.7.
Our userbase consists of members with varying level of technical ability, so while we ask them to optimise their images it would be unreasonable for us to expect them to do this, not to mention it's an inconvenience. Is there a solution to this?
Thanks

Canal World got a reaction from Verto in Concern re deprecation of Support requests
Hi,
We just wanted to voice or concern and dismay re the impending deprecation of the Support requests feature.
Appreciate it's somewhat basic and that there's more advanced alternatives on the market but for many small communities like ours, all we need is a basic solution and that's exactly what Invision provides. This is the primary reason we upgraded to the commerce package and we will be removing this from our subscription once the feature is removed.
Like many, we are entirely non-profit, maintained by a small team of volunteers. The prospect of having to install & maintain another third party COTS application just to meet our basic ticket requirements is not welcome, same for paying for a third party hosted application that will likely require some integration. - No thanks.
At the very least, Invision could create a method whereby a simple contact form submits a topic in a designated forum whereby site staff can reply. The user could then respond to their support topic via email. This would at least provide some basic functionality. I think it's fair to say that a "Contact Form" of sorts is a basic requirement of any website and it's a shame that the related support requests feature is being deprecated.
We will probably resort to using a basic contact form + mailbox for support requests, but in the past I have found this to be a much less effective of keeping support requests organised and the lack of integration with Invisions interface will be a major drawback.
Thanks

Canal World got a reaction from SC36DC in Image compression
Looking further, it seems there's two options, GD compression or ImageMagick - The latter only seems to compress jpgs.
Have updated it now to use GD. Screenshot attached for reference.

I am also very interested in image compression, as I intend to start a new forum once IC5 launches, and it will be very image heavy, and I would like to put into place the best image compression settings from the start.

Thank you. It appeared we already had compression set in the Image Settings although I was not aware. It only appears to do this for jpg file format though, most of the files in question are png. - Is there a way to compress these too?
If we set the "maximum pixel size" for attachments, - will it automatically reduce this as to ensure the image is within limit or will it simply prevent the users from uploading it in the first place? It is the latter scenario which generates complaints from our members, particularly from those who may not be quite so tech savvy.

ACP → System → Files → Image Settings
That’s where you set the compression level(s). In addition, you can set the maximum pixel size for attachment uploads. Both of these options combined get you pretty far.

Member Map
View File IPS 4.4 ONLY
For IPS 4.3, use version 3.5.7
Member Map is an application that allows your users to put their (Exact or approx) location onto an interactive map. Member Map has a permission model so you can limit which groups can add to the map.
As an administrator you have the ability to create custom groups where your community (when allowed) can place other markers in the map, for example if they would like to post the location of an upcoming meet, exhibits, shops, etc.
For developers
If you are a developer and you store location data in your app that you'd like to show on the map, you can now do so creating a membermap/Mapmarkers extension. Instruction on how to use it is included in the auto-generated file.
