  1. Thanks for this. But do we find them in a format that can be simply imported into your app – or do we then have to do enter them manually. I'm sort of hoping that there is a.CSV file format or something so that ready-made quizzes can simply be added.
  2. This sounds like a great idea and obviously lots of people like it very much. I have just a couple of questions – firstly, I suppose that it can be set to be used in only one particular sub- forum? Second thing is that I certainly don't have time to devise quizzes. Are there sources of quizzes available – either for free or for payment? Thanks
  3. Suggestion: It would be very good if we could insert the variable %s into the subject title. At the moment it doesn't seem to translate into the sender's name.
  4. Thank you I'll try that – but in terms of it being a modified theme, the only thing that has changed are the colours. Invision treats it as a standard theme when it comes to upgrades so from that point of view it is not at all modified. I'll try the support tool as you say. --------------------------------------------------- Thank you. That fixed it.
  5. I have sent you a message about this. It appears to install correctly and I have configured it – but the sharing icon does not appear at the top of the page in any view.
  6. Oh, I've upset you again. I'm sorry
  7. That's really great to know, Rikki
  8. Bravo. That is really impressive. You must be the author of the one which was originally referred to on this thread. Thank you very much and I will put some feedback once I've got it going. One question – how do I get it going? I've installed it and I've seen your screen images show that it can be switched on or off in two places but I don't see where those switches are. Thanks And to all you people - it's about keeping your customers happy. Geddit?
  9. I don't think this misrepresents the position at all – but I'm very sorry that you seem to be so upset about it
  10. Apart from anything else, it is a question of choice. I don't see any reason why Invision developers should limit the choices of their customers. After all there are hundreds/thousands of Invision communities around and it seems particularly bold for a developer or a team of developers or working for the same organisation essentially to say that – this is the way will be – this is the look and feel we have chosen for our clients and they will not be offered any other option. In exactly the same way, many people like having a preview button. Maybe reassures them – I don't know – but it is part of the culture of online communities and once again it becomes a question of choice. Leave it to the owners of the individual communities to decide whether or not to configure the preview button. I think Invision's role is simply to make it available. The fact that there are quite a few threads and posts on this Invision forum asking about the preview button, shows that is something which is not unimportant to Invision clients – I would venture to say that most of the Invision team don't have the day-to-day experience of running an Invision community in the same way that we do. I think Invision's role is that of a provider – not of a decider
  11. The perfect button in the perfect place
  12. Somebody brought to my attention that there was no preview button. Blow me they were right! I then came along to this forum and did a search on "preview button". There are lots of queries and clearly it's taken people lots of their time asking about it. It turns out that there is a preview button – and when I went back to my own forum, I found that – yes – there is a preview button. It's actually very good one because you can check the appearance of your post in desktop view, tablet view and phone view. A very nice feature. Bravo. The only problem is that the preview button is in a relatively obscure place – partly because it doesn't fit in with the worldwide Internet culture of preview button positioning. I think that this is shown by the very large number of comments related to the preview button on this forum. I think that this shows that the preview button should be repositioned so that people will find it in the conventional place. So here's the request – how about putting the preview button in a place where everybody can find it because that's where they expect it to be. Thanks
  13. Thank you. Any possibility as a feature that there be an option to download or upload the database both to have a security backup but also to be able to transfer the data to a another installation. In the meantime, are you able to tell me where the data is kept so that I can take a backup copy of it, please.
  14. I've just discovered another problem and that is that when a keyword appears, all the text after it disappears. I don't know if anybody else is having this problem but I'm afraid that the new version 3 point two seems to be faithful is unusable – in addition to having erased all of our keywords. I've reinstalled version 3.1.8 which is now working correctly although all our keywords have gone and we are having to replace them manually and it's going to be a job lasting several days
  15. I've just upgraded from version 3.1.8 two version 3.2 of keyword tooltips it wouldn't install and I had huge problems and eventually I deleted the old version and then the new version installed perfectly. I've now discovered that it seems that our entire collection of keywords has disappeared. Have they been erased? We had over a hundred and the system was working perfectly. Please could you let me know if they've been erased or I can recover them somewhere. Thanks Following on from the above post, we still have a full set of keywords on our test site – which upgraded perfectly, by the way. If the keyword collection on our live site is a raised, are we able to access the keyword database on the test site and then copy them over to the live site? Thanks
  16. Thanks. We want to be able to put someone on a global ignore list so that they have zero visibility - no one can see their posts, reactions, their online status, messages - anything. However, they will see everything as normal. They will be able to see their online status, they will be able to post and message and give reactions etc. To them, everything will seem normal. In that way, they can go about creating havoc and never understanding why no one is rising to their bait. In vbulletin, this is called - sending them to coventry. It is a very effective no-conflict-oriented way of dealing with trolls and they often don't realise for weeks or months what has happened. Site team can see them and their posts with a message Admin can then click to see the post and can make it visible if it is sensible and not-offensive It's better than moderation because if they want to cause trouble - then they just keep on coming back with new regsitrations
  17. Sure. First of all the not already ignored to the entire community. And we do ban them and we do suspend/moderate them – but they keep on coming back and they take a lot of time. We have found on the vBulletin site – amazingly – that if you get the troublemakers then if you placed on a global ignore list, for some reason rather they don't seem to notice for months so they keep coming to the forum, posting their remarks and never realising that nobody else can see them. So they're happy trying to stir it up, and our members are happy not noticing and not getting angry about it. It's not a solution that I use very often – but when it becomes necessary then it is extremely useful. Very often, because of the lack of reaction they get to their posts, we find that they tend to drift off. It's actually very nice non-conflict-oriented solution.
  18. I'm looking for a plug-in which would effectively add a particular person to a global ignore list so that everyone else would be oblivious to any posts or messages made by that person. This is an exceptional tool to deal with exceptional and persistent troublemakers who seem only to want to troll and hurt feelings of others. If you think that you could help us with this project then please flag it up on this thread and also send me a private message. Thanks
  19. Hello Joel, thank you for your contribution to this discussion. You say that you're going to side with Opentype, but I don't think you have done that. Opentype has taken a position based on a valid moral judgement – whether or not we agree with that moral judgement is neither here nor there. Opentype's moral position is based upon his view of the world – as is my own moral position. However, your position which possibly arrives at the same conclusion as that of Opentype seems to be based on pragmatic considerations – and I have no problem with that either. However, I was rather puzzled by what you have said until I eventually concluded that you probably don't understand how a global ignore facility works. A global ignore facility works by making a user completely invisible – including all of his/her posts so that although the ignored user can see everything on the forum, everyone else is totally unaware of his presence or of the things he writes. In this way, an ignored user can continue to make personal and abusive attacks on ordinary and often vulnerable people without causing any hurt because the target of his attacks is oblivious to them – as is everyone else in the community. My experience is that so long as the abuser remains unaware that nobody else can see his input, he eventually gets tired at the lack of reaction and simply goes away. I consider it to be a rather nice non-conflictual solution which I've been obliged to apply from time to time after the usual discussions, warnings, bannings et cetera have failed. Maybe you could confirm that you didn't realise that this is how "global ignore" works.
  20. I don't all find it repulsive. I think that it's capable of being cruel and I use it very rarely but there are some times when we have absolutely no option at all. Unfortunately we sometimes have to deal with people who are simply out to hurt us and also to hurt the site team. My first priority will always be the site team and all the decent people who come to our forum for help and not the people who come onto the forum to abuse them or to stir up trouble. I think it's a great facility and if it is not available now then I shall get a plug-in made.
  21. Thanks, but if they require approval – aren't they informed of this? The beauty about a global ignore is that the troublemaker keeps on visiting the forum, posts, never gets any responses but never realises why. As I said earlier it's rather cruel that in the past we have found it hugely useful. If they realise that they are on moderation or something then they simply start going and coming back under a different ID.
  22. Is there any way that the site team can place a troublesome member – it keeps on coming back under new registrations if they are banned – on a global ignore list. Although it seems rather cruel, with our vBulletin site we found that sometimes it was the only way to deal with these people because they might go for months trying to make trouble but not realising that nobody could see their messages. Thanks
  23. You're right. It wasn't flagged up as a pending update in the admin CP. However, thanks for the heads up. I've installed it and the problem is fixed.
  24. Hi, since our upgrade to 4.4.1, we have been getting lots of problems with this plug-in displaying template errors. As soon as the template is disabled, all the errors clear up. Clearly there's an incompatibility here. Can you help please?
