  1. How so? Until a member who should be affected by this rule will not be until they post another comment somewhere else. BUT... I think (again LOL) I might have found a way around it - looks like recounting the content count (WOW! say that three times quickly) for a member forces the rule to apply, so if I recount the content count for all members, on the face of it, it should work and move all the relevant members to the "can post" group.
  2. Edit: Wow, what an emotional rollercoaster.... What you suggested works, but only to a certain extent. It only moves members that reach 150 posts from here on out, and not members who already have 150 posts. For those members - they'll only be moved after they make and editional post. So still no 100% solution.
  3. Duuuuuuude, that just worked. So simple. I guess I had a (very) bad case of tunnel vision so I couldn't even step back and think of it from another direction. Thanks!
  4. Sorry, you misunderstood. It promotes ONLY people WITH 150+ posts, but only after they've posted ANOTHER piece of content after I've made the rule. For example: You have 180 posts I have 180 post Joe has 28 posts After I've applied the rule. NO ONE gets moved to the "can post" group. after I've posted any one piece of content, I am promoted to the "can post" group. After Joe posted any one piece of content, he isn't promoted to the "can post" group. You are not promoted to the group until you post a piece of content. So, a rule can work in this situation, but even then, everyone who already has 150 posts, still has to post one more piece of content before the rule is applied to them.
  5. I think one of the best features that IPS has in terms of "putting community created content center stage" is the "Copy to database" feature found in threads: screenshot from recent blogpost What this does, is take the opening post and make it into an article in pages, and then you have a checkbox that if checked, will copy all the comments in the thread to comments in the article. basically "reversing" the "open thread" feature that we have when publishing an article. This led us to a question, is there any way to do the same thing but as a blog? Open a thread, click "copy to blog", Select the posts you want to be blog posts, and copy all the other posts to comments chronologically (i.e all comments posted between first and second selected posts are copied to being comments on the first blog post, posts between 2 and 3 become comments on 2nd blog post and so on). Did anybody succeed in doing something like that? If not, Is there enough interest in such a feature to take it up with the IPS dev team?
  6. I think I'm following... Basically, disable the 150 post restriction all together, so that all users in the secondary group get to post, and add a promotion rule where anyone who gets to 150 posts is added to that group? Because if that's what you mean, not only does it sound like it should work, but also makes me (and the support team 🙂) look kinda stoopaide for not thinking about that option... @Morrigan I Wish that were true, but I have tried it multiple times and it simply doesn't work. I only have one group promotion rule so there's no hierarchy issues. The only way it will work is if a user who is already "qualified" for group promotion does something that advances them in the criteria that rule checks for (in our case, posts a piece of content). That basically means, every one of the ~5k people who already have posted 150 pieces of content will not be able to post in the "super secret special forum" until they post another comment somewhere.
  7. After talking to support and coming up empty handed, I turn to you. Maybe some of you came across something similar and found a solution or workaround. We have a forum that only members in a specific secondary group can post in. Users are manually added to this group at moderators' discretion. We've now decided to allow every user with 150 posts and more to automatically be allowed to post in that forum. However, after doing that, members in the secondary group (who were manually added) that DON'T HAVE 150 posts, can't post in the forum, even though all appropriate permissions seem to be set up correctly. Is there any option to allow a certain group to "bypass" the minimum content rule and just have anybody in that secondary group the ability to post in the forum. I would have used a group promotion rule, but that function does not work retroactively, and thus users who already "apply" for the group promotion rule, don't get the promotion. Thank you.
  8. Also if someone could give any input that would be awesome 🙂
  9. Is it possible for members to tag content they didn't start? Couldn't find any info on that, either in tag guides nor ACP...
  10. So i've recently opened the clubs functionality on our community and went on to translate it, and It looks like there is a key there that's already being used in a different place. On the clubs page, when you want to add "Topics" you aren't ACTUALLY adding topics, but more of a forum, since the club members open topics inside of it (I hope that makes sense to anybody other than me). So I've translated it to say "Forum". easy peasy. To my surprise, when browsing a member's activity on their profile, I saw that under the activity filter bar, under "Forums" it say "forums" again. Which is obviously wrong, since this refers to the TOPICS this member has started. So, after turning on the "view word keys" option in the translation section of the ACP, I saw that those two places use the same "Topic_pl" key, and that's kinda bad since those two places should be showing different words. Pics: 1) in Clubs. no bueno. IMO should use a seperate key. 2) In the user profile activity. Should stay as "Topics". Is there any way to make it happen or at least some kind of workaround?
  11. Sure, the thing is our forums are pretty old (started at 2002) and there is quite a lot of them, and a whole lot of information on them. Our users frequently link other threads as answers/references/reminders/etc, and in such a scenario I'd like the user to still have a quick way to go back to the original thread in case they go down a rabbit hole and visit multiple pages after clicking the link.
  12. So our community isn't displayed in English but Hebrew. And we've had a fairly easy time translating pretty much everything we wanted. Even things with different grammar rules (e.g in Hebrew, you don't say "This has 1 comment" but "This has comment 1", while if you're talking about multiple comments, it remains "This has 12 comments"). But I have now come across something I can't crack. the "this many members have found this review useful". See, the problem is that this here's a screen shot from the translation of the key in the ACP: As you can see, on the right side, there is no mention of the word "Members". however on the front end, it does show up: So I can only deduce that somehow, somewhere, the word "members" was perhaps hardcoded into the phrase/key/%d symbol or something. Anyone has any ideas on how to edit it out and replace it with, say, a group name or any other custom word (preferably, obviously, the Hebrew equivalent of "members")?
  13. Is there a plugin that does that? Because I didn't find one.
  14. That's actually a request we've been constantly getting since we made the move from VB (were we had this behavior set up). *Also, I'm talking about link in posts. Should have been more clear on that. I'll edit the op.
  15. Can we get an ACP option/toggle to open ALL links in posts (including internal) in a new tab? I won't even ask for a new toggle. you can add this to the "open External links" thingy to like a drop down or sumthn' 🙂 * Don't suggest middle/Ctrl clicking. Humans are dumb and don't know/remember this feature's existence. Yay? Nay? I vote yay. please?
  16. WHAT?! I read all your guys' posts about the 4.5 release (Also being so very much excited about it. when do we get it? when? WHEN?!?! I NEED IT!!!). how the mighty F did I miss that?! Thanks! Going to read up on that. Keep up the incredible work, you beautiful, beautiful, people you. ❤️ (<-totally platonic heart emoji)
  17. Bumping this up from purgatory seeing as there was no changes made in this regard. The "search by author" tool is an invaluable tool large, active communities. We moved our community from VB, and I - Both as a user, a moderator and admin - have been using this feature on pretty much on a weekly basis. Here are a couple of examples as to why this feature is needed, both from the community member's POV, and also from that of a moderator: 1. A member (Let's call him Bob) PMs me (or another mod) saying another member (say.... Mike) is constantly harassing them in a thread. said thread happens to be 549 pages long and has been running for the past 5 years. Wanting to check Bob is truthful and to see if Mike really is harassing them, I go into search and look for "comments/posts in this thread by Mike". I see mike only said Bob was incorrect once, I Tell Bob to go do something more useful with his time. 2. A mod (josh) tells me he keeps seeing this one girl (Amanda) constantly posting cars for sale on our Buy/Sell forum, So she's probably a dealer posing as a private seller (If you fail to see the problem, This is illegal here in our country). I then go to the search and look for "threads posted by Amanda in the Buy/Sell forum" and see she posted 64 cars for sale in the last six months. we ban Amanda's ass and send her packin'. 3. A member (Mindy. No, I don't know what's up with the names. Those are just the ones that came to me.) notices another member (James) is trolling the hell out of a technical help request thread opened by a brand new member (Harry). Fearing this would make Harry leave and wanting to be a helpful community member, Mindy searches "Posts in this thread by James", and reports the latest comment attaching the entire list of trolly comments. James is then shows the proverbial door and recommended to not let it hit him in the tushy on his way out. Now, Can we have it back please?
  18. Sorry for the late response. It was the "restricted replies" plugin. I've talked to the Dev and he's working on fix, and I'll come back here and post once he figured it out. Thanks for the help.
  19. Found the issue. Apparently one of the plugins was interfering with this functionality. Will let the plugin's dev know so he can fix it.
  20. https://carsforum.co.il/ It's kind of in Hebrew, so... Good luck 😅 Here's a direct link to a random thread: https://carsforum.co.il/topic/673849-שאלה-חלב-עושה-רעש-של-משקה-מוגז-בפתיחה-זה-תקין Edit: I've also tried disabling all posting permissions for guests in thinking it might be colliding with "Post before registering" but no cigar...
  21. So, this feature is one of the main reasons we chose to move our community to IPS, and thus far guests' ability to post without having to be dragged through registration forms has had a huge impact on registrations (they basically doubled). but after reading a bit more into the feature, I think it isn't working as it should. In the article "unveiling" the feature and also in the guide it says it will only allow users to WRITE the post and then pretty much force them to register with a pop-up/redirect, otherwise the post won't, well, post. On our forums, it actually posts the post and doesn't prompt anything. When trying to post as a guest, it doesn't ask me for my e-mail address but rather for a display name. In the ACP, I've only seen the one toggle for "Post Before registering" and it's on. guests' posting permissions are unchecked for "post new topics" and "Reply to posts". Is there any other setting I'm missing? am I doing anything wrong? Has the feature's functionality been changed? I'm pretty lost here, folks, and could really use a pointer. Thanks.
  22. Might be a dumb question, but I couldn't find an answer and/or solution. We're using the "Popular now" block on the forum index page, Which is super cool and awesome and really does help grow user interactions on interesting threads. The problem is that clicking the thread title takes the user to the FIRST post in the thread (or seeing the last post in the pop-up window). I would think that the preferred behavior - since there is now circle or star logo next to the topic title - would be that clicking the title would take the user to the first UNREAD post. But it doesn't. I installed the "Topic title to first unread" plugin, But it only applies to the topics in the forums themselves. NOT the "popular Now" block (The plugin is really great otherwise AND FREE, so no complaints in that direction). Is there any way, natively or by using a plugin, to sort this issue out?
