  1. Hi All,

I am currently in talks with stoo2000 to build a hook that will automatically import members into the members map via a task, negating the need for a user to actually the add it manually.

If you are interested in splitting the cost for this development work, please let me know.

    Thanks.

    Pete

  2. Are you planning to auto connect user location (in their profile / registration page) to member map?

would be cool, auto-add users ;)

I have suggested this and have offered to stump up some cash for a paid hook as this would be excellent for my club members to arrange local meets with other members...

here is how I thought it could work:

Firstly, this could be developed as an add-on hook, which includes a method that does the following as an action when logging in.

    * If location is present in user-profile import location into Member Map.

    * If member location is not present display notice that location is not yet set on forum front page

    * If member location has changed from previous value, import updated location into member map.

Hopefully the above approach will be a better solution than bulk importing all members as I have over 11,000 members, but not all are still active, and this will effectively import "active" members who have logged in on my forums.

if you are happy to contribute some money towards this to expedite the development of this then I'm happy to do this.

I've not yet heard back from stoo2000 yet and wanted to give him the opportunity to response before I looked at posting on the project board as I would like this functionality probably faster than the developer can commit too as this is still in a beta stage :)

  3. spotted slight but on iOS 7 on my iPhone 5 - when viewing membermap in portrait mode and clicking "update location" doesn't show the geo-location icon - however if I turn my screen landscape I can see it ok :)

hope that makes sense? looks like a CSS formatting issue

  4. Yeah, Send me a PM, things like that may incur charges from Bing, depending on the amount you want to do.

Hi yes no worries, I don't mind incurring charges from bing, the benefits this will bring my community outweighs any costs involvement.

I'll PM you when I get chance later :)

  5. There's two possible issues with this, the thought has been there in my mind for a while though.

    • You'll quickly get ALOT of markers, map performance may suffer as part of that (in 1.x it would likely make MM unusable)
    • Bing/Google have a limit on the amount of requests you can make to the respective geocoding services, you'll quickly hit and probably be required to upgrade to a paid map plan to do further requests (rendering your map unable to add new markers)

I've had plugins like this working in the past, I have many members and wouldn't want them having to add markers manually.

This was done in configurable batches in the past on other systems using the google API.

I have no issue with paying bing or whoever for additional requests. From what you have said performance is much better in 2.x to facilitate more markers?

    Thsnks.

  6. Hi there, yea I ran the previous solutions in batches, it did take a few days but I don't have a problem with that :)

I presume I wouldn't have to rely on each using saving their location field and there would be a method of converting the location data in batch on their behalf ?

Many thanks for the response, do you have an ETA on when the next version will be available for testing?

    Many thanks.

  7. Hi Everyone,

Just installed this fab plugin - I have 11,00 members with 80% populating the "location" field in their profile, i'm a little surprised that this plugin doesn't first of all look at the location field in the users profile to map all my members, is this something that can be configured?

I have ran similar member maps before on other CMS systems that have allowed me to import users and thus giving me a populated map as opposed to something that looks a little bare :(

    Thanks for any assistance.

    Pete
