I would have to disagree that "most" communities don't use a calendar - consider that folks, like me, can't use the calendar because it does not have enough functionality.

I work with a few hundred chapters who use systems like Meetup or Calendar.net in addition to their forum systems because they can handle events by state, sub-state (chapter, region, etc.), handle mapping, geolocation, RSVP, etc. They have members cross country (and around the globe) who have, on average, 4 member events per month - and post many more in support of other chapters and organizations.

Meetup.com - community with calendar - is nirvana for me but too locale specific. Joomla with jCal is as close as I can get to the "perfect" CMS integrated calendar - but it lacks RSVP [and commercial development, roadmap, consistent support, etc.] which is a non-starter for me.

Look at nearly every CMS forum and you will see RSVP as a feature request.

For me Calendar features are the difference between IPB and vB - so far you are winning as you have a start date/time and event type, on the fence because I can't see where calendar entries can be linked to forum posts - so at the very least it's opportunity for solid differentiation between vendors working with "communities" of users.

Sometimes communities meet... a calendar is a key component of that, IMHO.

Would like to place on record IPS are normally much faster than the current response times though :) obviously due to the release of 3.0

I'm not IPS, but I can't see this happening. They want to encourage people to buy their licenses directly, not from existing or former customers. Transferring licenses is of no benefit to them at all.

i am just curious, why you don't add an option to automaticaly generate sitemap for forum. It would be a large step in SEO optimization for forums, also it would speed up forum indexation.

Also i am interested, why you guys doesn't provide an robots.txt, which would block dublicate content, and things which would be no reason to index?

And finally, why don't you rewrite all urls in friendly style, if i have checked option for Friendly Style in ACP?

Unfortunately, guys, despite the laborious and time-consuming testing we do locally, it's just not the same as testing on a box with hundreds (sometimes thousands) of users online and millions of posts. Basically, this is a real world situation. We need to do real world testing at times.

We'd rather do it here, on our own site, and get IPB3 working as good as we possibly can, than release IPB to you guys with slow functions and so forth. Just look at it this way - we're doing the testing here, where we can control, debug, monitor and fix it, to save you trouble down the road. :)

Well the skinning competitions now been 'extended' to the 15th June so i think they are going to be pushing it for final by the end of June.

Wonder if it will be extended again due to popular demand :P :)

RC 2 is going on my live forum for sure - just couldnt take the risk with RC1 with it being the first release they suggested to use on live forums (especially with all those different configurations out there etc)

It was three weeks between Beta 5 and RC1 so i think it would be next week at the earliest! but of course "when its ready" :)

thats why im not updating my live site till rc2 at least.

Yep there are always bugs in release candidates otherwise it would be IPB gold haha!

They also told us quarter 4 in 2008 then scratched that now not even quarter 2 in 2009 is going to be achieved. I dont mean to sound like im having ago just that the timeframes dont mean a lot to IPS.

Just have to wait till its ready :)
