Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Yesterday at 02:04 PM
jhutch Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Is the first RC always this bad? What I mean by that is, there are just so many errors after upgrading from 2.3.6. I honestly don't know where to start when it comes to reporting bugs to the the tracker... This is my first time to be around during the Beta and RC phase, so I'm just wondering if this would be considered "normal"
Carl M Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 thats why im not updating my live site till rc2 at least. Yep there are always bugs in release candidates otherwise it would be IPB gold haha!
Brett B Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Considering it's your first time, you wouldn't understand that an RC release is the first testing release that a large amount of people are going to install and test out. There are only so many bugs that can be found by the amount of people who opt to test the Beta releases. Now that more people are using the RC, more bugs are going to be found and reported. I don't really understand what would lead you to believe that the first RC is 'bad'.
bfarber Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 If you are experiencing bugs you should report them to the bug tracker. As of the last time I checked, there were not any really big issues, nor any issues affecting many people, so I'm not entirely sure what you are referring to. :)
jhutch Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 I am adding things to the tracker as best I can... I'm just wondering if it is normal to have THIS MANY bugs. I mean, I know there are going to be bugs and erros and what not. I just didn't know if it was normal to have this many on the first RC... http://nflspot.com/froums You can go there and look at what I mean... When you try to quote people, the name of the user and time doesnt show up. There is lots of text on the homepage that is completely missing. You can't minmize categories. The right panel is completely messed up when you try to minimize and maximize that. The fast reply feature does work. You can't edit your signature.... It just seems like an awful lot of errors, even for an RC

jhutch Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 That was a big reason why I posted this. It was hard to believe I was the only person upset with this release when there were SO many errors. People are working on it now for me in the tracker. It seems like when you do an upgrade from 2.3.6 the old modification and other crap like that really mess things up.
bfarber Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Modifications, by and large, shouldn't mess anything up. That's not to say none will, but I can't think of any off the top of my head that should.
Tom Christian Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 I thought only Customers had access to the RC release?
bfarber Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 They do, but you shouldn't judge by what you see here on the forums alone. :) He could have a perpetual license and not require support, for instance. Or his client area account could be under a different email address.

G.B.Yahav Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Look... i have bugs too... but you cant say that it's so bad becuse see it like that: When IP.Board developers see bugs they fix it, but in that large system they cant find all the bugs so becuse of this, we (the customers / the forums administrators), have to help them find the bugs so they make sure to fix them ;)

I wonder how people with a live forum will do.
chasz Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 well we asked for it, and i dunno why you updated a live forum LOL Hope you made a backup. when is RC2 ?? ;)
