  1. There an ETA on this? I know it went from RC2 to final, to some time after final.

No official statement was ever made about subscriptions manager's release date.

Matt has been working on it every dat recently - I'd expect it to be ready very soon - we want is out asap too ;)

  2. I understand plenty. I know its tough but Im just saying I would think there would have been more improvement on that by now so its not so much of a impact on the server to where it would slow ANY board down.

I say at the very least give people the option to turn on the speed mode with search on or off. Thats all I was saying. Search is crucial to most boards. If a person needs to use the speed feature even having some things disables will help quite a bit.

If you have a specific suggestion on how it can be approved, please share :)

Unfortunately saying "let's improve search!" is all well and good but... well... what exactly shall we do that we haven't done already? :)

  3. Is it possible to give an "at least" idea? Like, "It'll be at least two weeks", with the bolding intact, so if someone does fail to read that part and tries to say anything, they can be referred back to it and given a road map to a few dictionaries that explain the concept of "at least"? Meanwhile those of us who understand can say, "Ah ok, won't be before that time, but on that day OR AFTER THEN".

The "at least" idea should only be used when there is a definite known date though, and the only hold up comes down to a few things that will definitely be done before then, leaving the release up to the discretion of IPS staff.

Brandon said something along the lines of "we'd like to have it out by the end of June" and I read on these forums earlier today someone say something like "Well they promised it would be out by the end of June!"
There is a reason we don't say dates.

That being said - I think you'll be fairly pleased when final is released ;)
  4. You know... we put a build new build on here a few days ago (you probably noticed the new expand/collapse) buttons, but because we kept "RC2" in the footer - nobody cared.
Now we update it today, and put it as "3.0.0" - you all go nuts :P

  5. Was only expressing my thoughts on it to provide feedback. :)

Someone joked that IPS might release it on June 30th to keep some sort of a promise. Is there an effort being made to do it before June ends (specifically) or just the usual effort to try to get it out soon but no planned date as of yet?

I find it amusing how Brandon saying something along the lines of "I'd quite like to have this finished by the end of June" has become "we promise it will be finished by the end of June" :P
We never said it would be ready by the end of June ;)

  6. What is the emergency phone #? Where on the site is this?

I saw only 1 support number on the site and called that. Basicaly it was some yap yap about them only being an answering service and they asked for my email address and phone number and i gave it to them (although i cant even receive email on my domain because my dedicated server is not working hence why im calling in for support)

Call the main phone number and it says "If you are an IPS hosting customer and your website is not responding, press 3 for emergency support information."

Where is this at? Because in my client center there is NO option to send any type of hosting complaint ticket. (there is a category that says "IPS HOSTING" but its not clicking and i cannot send in a support to that department) Which is something I mentioned to support months ago that they need to change the options that I can choose from because there is no option to choose about a server not working or email not working, just about IP board and come copy right removal.

So i didnt sent an emergency ticket because im unable to do that in my client center, maybe my client center is outdated. My website is running by defintion, but i have no access to it and im paying for a dedicated server. Normally if theres a problem with my site (since i have dedicated server) i can log into my whpanel and reboot the server or whatever, but i cant get access to it. Like if i had posted "im going to shoot the president" by mistake on friday, theres no way for me to changed it until monday when somebody fixes my server. I mean i would feel better if the site was totally down, instead of partially up, and i cant make any changes to it.

so 2 days ticket in system and no help, so i dont think thats "in a timely manner" as printed in that picture you posted

You should be able to press "IPS Hosting" and then "Hosting: Emergency" - if that option isn't available, then I'd send in a ticket to account assistance to get that enabled :)

  7. Why doesn't IPS just post something on the homepage that indicates how someone can report IPB piracy because I'm seeing a lot of these type of topics created on the forums here.

It's on the "Contact IPS" page.

Anyway, thanks for reporting - I'll go ahead and close this now.

  8. And the definition of "not an emergency" being within the sole purview of IPS, I would imagine?

Kidding aside, I didn't know that. I thought it was billable, period. Thanks for clarifying.

    :)

That appears when you select the emergency ticket department, right above the ticket entry box (you can't miss it). A similar message is played if you call and press whatever button you need to press for an emergency, which you then have to press another button to state you've understood.

  9. When you called and pressed the button for the Support Department, weren't you given an option for emergency (BILLABLE) support? Maybe with a phone number?

    That used to be true.

Emergency support only carries a charge if you choose the emergency option and it's not an emergency.
  10. Unless anything incredibly horrible is uncovered, I think it's safe to say that final will be the next version.

We'll be giving "final" to the quality assurance team before it's released to catch anything that may have arisen from RC2 (and we've invited more people than normal to participate in this process for final).

At some point the plunge has to be made - we don't want an eternal beta.

  11. yeah so? viewing is different to posting

in the grand scheme of things it probably wouldnt matter, if some is out to get ya they will.

you can probably insert my IP yourself, however i dont understand this resistance !! lol

    How is it?
Let's say you just posted something and now I want to find out who you are so I can hunt you down (not that I could do that with just your IP address anyway :P) - I send you a PM, with an image in it - now I know your IP address.

You should bare in mind I have very little say in what features are and aren't included. I'm just trying to make you see why it would be an utterly pointless feature, regardless of whether or not it's added :)

  12. there s a couple of countries who log IPs for reprisals against family members: china and north korea, even without the Patriots Act, i reckom the Americans do as well.

Secondly i am the server admin, i "accidentally" delete all my logs !!

But as I said, anyone can just link to an image or something and it'd be in their server logs.

Right now, your IP address was just logged on my server because you viewed my avatar.
  13. As said before, an IP address is not personally identifiable information, my IP address is 82.21.53.245 - go nuts :P

Sure, someone could order an ISP to release more information based on that IP, but your IP address is logged every time, you load any page, from any site.
So, if you're posting things you shouldn't be on a forum, all it takes is for someone to register, stick an image in their signature that's hosted on their site - post in a topic, and bam - they have the IP address of everyone who's viewed that post.
Let's say they wanted to get the IP of a specific user: they send you a PM with an image in it, you view the image, your IP turns up in their server logs for that image.

  14. dude, obviously those features will be disabled when IP returns null....server might log but it doesnt mean particular topics should be id'ed.

    eg indymedia sites

But, my point was, why would you sacrifice key security features when it's information that is collected regardless of whether IPB logs it or not - and there is no reason for it to not be logged.

In fact, knowing an IP address is so important to how IPB operates - if it cannot detect an IP address, it will show you an error.
  15. Whether or not the software logs an IP address is kind of irrelevant as the server will log the IP address of every visitor.

Also, if the software cannot log IP addresses, it causes technical issues... there are various features that rely on knowing the IP address, including security features such as IP matching, account locking, et al.

Furthermore, an IP address is not regarded as private information (like a name or email address), nor can it be used to identify you.
Some people seem to have an idea that every computer has a predefined IP address and anyone who knows it can find out your name and address... simply not true. Sure, your ISP has that information, but that's not public... think of your IP address like your library card number ;)

  16. Fundamentally, they are quite different. CCS will be an application for IP.Board, while Dynamic was a stand-a-lone application. CCS also is purely for content (at least in this 1.0 version) while Dynamic had a myriad of other features which are not needed as they are already in IP.Board (for example, Dynamic had Personal Conversations, which is now in IP.Board 3).
But of course, there are similarities in that they are both content creation systems :)

  17. Yeah! How dare IPS try to make a little money from their product? Now you can go pay $40 per annum with "other" forum software, as well as extra to upgrade to new releases like 4.0.

If people choose not to renew, that's their prerogative :) There was really no need to bring Jelsoft into this... I thought our community was a little bit above that ;)
