Congratulations to the Invision Team!

With 5.0 we are going to start evaluating hosting our entire site on 5.0, removing WordPress and a need for any type of bridge - this would be amazing if possible!

I made this move a couple years ago to keep things integrated - some SEO wobbles (which is to be expected) as it took a while for Google to stop looking at my old Wordpress instance in favour of my Invision Pages app but once that was done it was plain sailing. Genuinely haven't looked back since. :)

Google to stop looking at my old Wordpress instance in favour of my Invision Pages app but once that was done

Had you any custom redirects in place, or did you just leave all the dead links which returned only a 404 response?

I did edit my robots.txt with some of my highest-trafficking content from the Wordpress so that was covered, but generally I had little time to fully set redirects up (and got spooked when reading that you apparently shouldn't have too many redirects set in your robots.txt for whatever reason). Long term, I know you have that SEO app and I'd like to explore using that app to clean things up (maybe when I upgrade to v5).

As for the other direction, I moved my old Wordpress to an 'archive.' subdomain instance and used a plugin to automatically redirect users who click certain links to go to the relevant page/story on my Invision Community site. I haven't fully moved all my archive content from the WP to Pages yet so that's been a good solution for me.

Many thanks Marc! It took some getting used to (including losing some features of the Wordpress post editor) but we have styled it out well I think :) And although I'm excited for v5 and future updates to that, even v4 has been surprisingly versatile for what I've needed it to do. Very pleased with the results!

Classic is a change in our license terms for version 5 and beyond to ensure self-hosted remains viable for both our customers and us for the foreseeable future. You can check the new terms, offering and pricing in your Client Area -> Manage Purchases -> click your license -> Upgrade.

My legacy self-hosted plan was automatically renewed the other day. What happens if I switch to the new licensing plan now? Do I lose any money or does the time gets credited somehow?

It will explain it all when you look at your information in the Client Area😊

Okay thanks. Will have a look. Cheers

I think that you will be credited with extra months in your license depending on how long you have been a customer. But as mentioned above, everything will be explained in details if you click the convert license link.

It is not a problem to delete them after the upgrade.

The problems that make a hasty upgrade pointless, at least for me, are the malfunctioning of database pages - not a single page of mine is visualized in the front end. All articles are visible in ACP, but that's it. Whatever settings I tried - to no avail.

A newly created database page is OK.

Otherwise yes - the 4.7.20 -> 5.0 upgrade went smoothly and without any remarks.

I spent 3 hours today trying to visualize pages - but no and no. For now I gave up and restored a backup to 4.7.20

Apparently I need to build my entire site on the test site like this, with all pages and blocks, before my next upgrade attempt.

I had created blocks in 4.7.20, an exact copy of the ones I am testing with on the test site. After the upgrade I easily created the same home page.

That is. In my opinion, a long preparation is required before an upgrade (otherwise it's a huge headache... and frustration).

What happened to your Pages? They should be upgraded ok even if they look a little odd if you have custom templates.

Hi all, not sure this was covered but dev mode/tools upload works with 5.0.0? Thanks.

IN_DEV is not available on cloud, which we already answered here, and for self hosted you would download the files from your client area and then upload them to the same directory where your community is.

I have a self hosted client all setup thanks. The question was about compatibility.

"Developer Tools for version 4 4.7.20" - Seems to be the latest?

Ahhh just seen this lol - The developer files for IC5 are located in the download popup in your client area.

I made all the pages Builder mode.

I upgraded again to 5.0

Awesome experience - almost a heart attack situation with pages

Now at least records are visible, but the CSS is disgusting

In addition, it is full of system logs with errors...

Probably later this evening I will return 4.7.20 again - apparently 5.0 does not work well for my live site.

If you want - take a look for yourself, login details are up to date in my client area.☹️

Yes, I will look in the next 15 minutes.

This is awesome to hear, and we are excited to make the move! Thank you for the information!

How to create a language pack based on the custom English pack? When I download the pack, the file that a get is not a language pack... I am confused.

Still not following.

I do not see anything here in my client area to convert to V5?

I also can't see anything in my client area to convert to V5?

Hi @Cath Foster,

If you are on Cloud, you can request the upgrade via the Client Area → Manage this purchase → Upgrade to Invision Community 5.

If you are on Classic, you can simply download v5 via the Client Area → Manage this purchase → Download Invision Community 5.

I just received a congratulatory email from diib com (my live site is monitored.)

This is a review for version 5.

Excellent work, congratulations to your entire development team.

Self (Classic) hosted account you need convert your license then you see the version 5

Correct! Forgot to add that into my post, thanks @media.

Alright, I better wait with the upgrade then. I got a database with +1k of pages that must work after the upgrade, so thanks for the heads-up. 😟

Can I do a "TESTINSTALL" with Version 5 to familiarize myself with it before trying to implement it on my 2 active communities?

I have a v4 test install in a hidden location. My thought would be to upgrade that first to see how things go.

Hi @Robert Angle,

I assume you are on Classic (a self-hosted licence)? If so, the licence allows you to have one live installation and one test installation. You can also have an unlimited number of installations on 'localhost' domains so you can test locally without restriction.

You can definitely use a test installation to give v5 a run before upgrading your live community. 👌

Is there only ONE view for board index?

Version 4 has 3 different views....

IF there are other views, how do you change the view? (Could not find the buttons or links)
