Getting a "A test installation has already been activated for this license key."

Recommended Posts

Our test instance of Invision suffered an update error so we blew away the file structure of the forums per:

and uploaded the most current version of the software. Mind you this is the EXACT same URL and path we used and had licensed for our previous TestInstall < 36 hrs ago. Running the site and forum/admin/install all system checks are green. Entering in our license code with ****-****-****-****-****-TESTINSTALL per the instructions in the aforementioned guide and we get: "A test installation has already been activated for this license key. Your license key entitles you to one test installation only." The guide says:

1. You can delete your current test installation and reinstall at the same URL. For example, if your Test URL (as shown in the client area) is "example.com/test", you can install at example.com/test (meaning of course you'll have to delete whatever is there first) and you will not get the error message.

Thoughts?

Usually it will be that something is slightly out. using www where you werent before, or https where you werent before, for example. In any case, I have cleared that out for you, so you should be good to install there now

Thanks Marc. Finally had time to sit and work on this again. Getting an issue trying to connect to the existing database. See error message below. Do we just need to blow away the database, let the install happen fresh and then restore the last backup into the DB? Granted its just the test so nothing major as far as files, but it would save the time setting up and fine tuning the forums again.

You're running the installer?  If there is already an instance, you should not be installing it.

If the version in the database matches the version of the IPB files you're using, simply upload your files and edit the conf_global.php.  (Once you can login, rebuild the system cache in the ACP and fix any path issues.)

If the version in the database is OLDER (say you're database is 4.6.x and you're installing 4.7.0), run www.yourdomain.com/admin/upgrade.
