Unread topic no longer in bold

We have updated to 4.6 yesterday and just noticed that it doesn't show unread topics as bold like before.

Is there any special setting require to achieve this very useful feature?

This was removed as unfortunately it was incompatible with the way in which we cache data on blocks.

IPS upgrades are still same how they were in 2014.

Once step forward and 5 steps backward.

Its a real shame, that you guys just decide by yourself without giving customers an option to choose.

Any paid developer to help? I'm happy to pay money if that's what IPS wants to charge for every nook and cranny now.

 

Sorry to say, but it was a brainless approach for putting off regular community contributor - by saying go figure out.

Very sorry to hear you feel this way. To explain further here, the issue was this was actually bringing up bug reports on quite a constant basis. The reason for the bug reports was because the feature didnt actually work correctly and couldn't do due to caching. It would be quite a large change to the software in order to correct this, so the bolding was removed. It wasnt really something we were able to provide an optional checkbox on for selection at this time.

What you are seeing there is on a stream, where they will indeed show correctly. Bolded items will not show however in block items, which is why its not showing in the area you mentioned in your topic

Because streama are not cached. 

IPS removed from blocks simply because it didn’t reflect the truth for the moment. Before you could see the unread dot and bold title, then you click to read the item (topic or anything else), go back to index and… the topic kept with unread dot and bold. It would remove them only when cache is updated. Simple like that. So people complain “why it is still bold if I already read it?”.

Can you provide a patch for this, I'm happy to pay even if cached data is wrong for few seconds but do eventually show the truth.

Thanks Adriano for super quick help to save the embarrassment.

What Adriano can achieve single handedly within few hours should have been given as an option from IPS to toggle ON/OFF button for people who want millisecond accuracy on cached block (Switch OFF) instead killing the whole useful functionality for daily needs.

HUMBLE REQUEST TO IPS: Please don't remove existing features and functionality on every upgrade, it's very annoying, scary and embarrassing for community owners.

Very sorry to hear you believe this is the case. This was removed some time ago, and hasnt just been removed in the last release. We certainly wouldnt remove items in every upgrade, and would have good reason to remove items when we do
