Move search to User Bar

This is something I've been wanting to do with my themes but it's a bit complicated for me and I think a plugin would be the more efficient route. Basically I want to remove the search bar from the main navigation and instead have an icon in the user navigation like so:

I was able to do that easily by just adding a new link but I would love a plugin that adds this system wide, hides the existing search bar, and instead shows the search pop-up menu when clicked, similar to how it does when you click the search bar now, but obviously with the search bar included in the pop-up itself.

You might need to put in the registration bar as well because then you can't search without being signed in.
