Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
Morgin Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 I have a user who asked for their username to be changed as their registration name gave away too much personal info. I did so, but I understand there is an issue whereby the old name still shows up in previous threads where that user was quoted and cannot be directly edited. Is there any way to rebuild a topic so that the quotes use the newer updated username? CoffeeCake and shiobi 2
bfarber Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 There is no built in option to do this I'm afraid. Morgin 1
CoffeeCake Posted June 30, 2020 Posted June 30, 2020 This would be a nice feature to put on the roadmap. I have the same issue. It's hard to imagine how to do this from a programming perspective and to support all of the legacy things, yet here's a +1 for the challenge. Perhaps how @mentions work?

I presume given it’s a unique name that I could probably do so via a direct database edit (I assume the name must be hardcoded into the post body as if it was based on the database username it would always remain correct). I’m holding off in this instance given it’s going to be easier to just hide the old threads, but agree it might be nice if there was some sort of tool to do this from the ACP.
Nathan Explosion Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 (edited) This still works, as far as I am aware... Retracted - going to update the code a bit before suggesting the plugin. Here you go... Edited July 1, 2020 by Nathan Explosion
Morgin Posted July 1, 2020 Author Posted July 1, 2020 Thanks. When you say it doesn’t change content in the database, does that mean that if you uninstall the plugin, it will revert to the old names?
Nathan Explosion Posted July 1, 2020 Posted July 1, 2020 (edited) Yes, it will show the name of the account at the time the quote was posted. Edited July 1, 2020 by Nathan Explosion
