Worldoversea Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 In addition to the initial edit I already did or should I revert my first edit? Many thanks. JB
stoo2000 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 In addition to the initial edit I already did or should I revert my first edit? Many thanks. JB In addition to. (this one is a bugfix in the next release anyway)
Worldoversea Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 In addition to. (this one is a bugfix in the next release anyway) Working perfect, I had to search for the edit and found it under the map Template. Many thanks for this modification. Will I have to make this edit to each of the skins? I have it on my test board but was thinking to hold off until your next version to see if the member map can populate of the members location field for city, state or country upon install. I did read that it might be a problem depending on what is enter there if it does not recognize it. Will it be an easy update keeping the existing markers? I read in the prior postings about custom markers, this has to be done through Google map? I don't see any way that a member or admin can enter this and not sure how to use it.

I wouldn't wait for it, I'm not sure when I'm going to be working on it - Got alot of stuff to get finished. One aim for it is to be able to automatically populate the map from other data. Custom markers can only be added from in the ACP (visit Other Apps, Member Map, Custom Markers).
Worldoversea Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Sounds good, I'll install it on the live board. Question of the edits, from looking at it I would have to make the change to each skin template. Is it better if I try to find it on the install files before I upload and install making the change? Regarding custom markers, found it. I take this to be a location that a member can add in addition to their location or is this only done by the admin through the ACP?

Is it better if I try to find it on the install files before I upload and install making the change? That could be one way to do it, it would save you applying the fixes to each of your skins. (admin/applications_addon/others/membermap/xml/membermap_root_templates.xml contains the skin bits) Regarding custom markers, found it. I take this to be a location that a member can add in addition to their location or is this only done by the admin through the ACP? Custom Markers are for Administrators Only.
Worldoversea Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Thank you for all of this Stuart. I'll give it a go on both of the edits at the location you stated. Jim B.
Worldoversea Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 All seems to be working fine. I tested both in IE8 and FF. I have one member reporting that the information is outside the white box but I can not get it to duplicate myself. Any ideas? He has cleared cache, cookies, etc. and still has the same problem testing these two browsers which I can not duplicate.

(I'll make a guess of Safari on Mac ?)
Worldoversea Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I just tested showing other users on the test board and when I'm logged out all is good, when I'm logged in some show ok and some out of the box. You can create a test account and look at it while logged in or out. http://jeeptalk.net/jeeptalk31
Worldoversea Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I think I might have found the problem. When a user is a global mod he sees the issue. When we remove them from that member group all is fine. It does not happen with admin. Any ideas on where to look to configure?

It does not happen with admin. Any ideas on where to look to configure? It's due to the delete button text, I was going to look at making it shorter to alleviate this issue. The white boxes are automatically sized by Google, so it's not something we can control as such.
Worldoversea Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 When a marker it's by itself you can see it fine even with the delete button txt but when markers are close and you see the blue, zoom in and look at it, that is when it's off the box. Will deleting the button txt and just leaving the button to the side of the member group or at same location work? I can always make a note to the moderators what that minus button does. Thank you.

You can remove the text via a template edit, or change the language string for something shorter. I will be looking at this for the next release anyhow.
Worldoversea Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Can you direct me where to make the edit either on the template or the language string while we wait for the next release in the interim? I'm a newbie at this so any details are appreciated. When you come out with the next release, will it erase all the markers or does it store in a database and can just be updated?
Worldoversea Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Found the language string: modRemoveMarker Remove Marker If I delete this totally, will minus icon remain to be able to delete or does icon take up a line and has to be moved?

The language string is called 'modRemoveMarker' or you can alter the skin in 'mapInfoBox' template. Change '{$this->lang->words['modRemoveMarker']}' to your new string, or remove completely. If you do make skin edits, you will need to make sure you revert the template bits when you upgrade to a newer version. Markers are not erased between upgrades. Regards Stuart Found the language string: modRemoveMarker Remove Marker If I delete this totally, will minus icon remain to be able to delete or does icon take up a line and has to be moved? Icon should stay in the same place.
Worldoversea Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 I went ahead and changed "Remove Marker" to "Remove" and it seems to work and now shows inside the box. Can you clarify;Change '{$this->lang->words['modRemoveMarker']}' to your new string, or remove completely. If you do make skin edits, you will need to make sure you revert the template bits when you upgrade to a newer version. Do I take this to mean to revert the edit adding back the string before an upgrade? Since I made an edit to the language bit only, do I have to revert this as well before an upgrade? Thank you, JB

Worldoversea Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Regarding post 701 through 703 which the default member zoom worked fine after the edit. I noticed that when I added a custom marker it did not follow the rule and it zooms all the way in depending on the markers that have been posted taking the average of all. Apparently the custom marker section has it's own zooming code as well. Is there a code that I can edit for the maker section to work along with the member markers so it stays in the same default zoom? Thank you, JB
stoo2000 Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Do you mean that the Custom Markers are not included in the Clusters ?
Worldoversea Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Not sure what you mean. It's included in the entire page. Let me explain. I had the default (with edits) set around 3. It shows around 3/4 of North America and Europe. Every time a user visits the page this is what they see with all the markers unless they zoom to a particular area. When they change forum sections and come back to member map, the default is seen again. Well, all that went out the window when I added a custom marker. It zooms the area all the way in to show the average of markers that are listed. So if you only have 10 markers in a single area that is the area that shows as default and not the 3/4 of the world. I can see how the default view would increase in area once members from other areas start to enter their locations but until then...

jackflash Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 This mod is great  , however, when too many markers get added, it crashes :( So on one hand, you want people to add their location, but the more that's added the closer the end appears.
