Book and DVD Library

The audience on my main site are of the older generation and the site is specific to recreational aviation. A couple of users have asked if the site could set up some kind of Book and DVD library where a user can post a book or DVD to another user who in turns sends it one to another user that requests it. So we have in circulation Books and DVDs around with the users on the site.

I have given this some thought and can't come up with a way it could be done, I have looked in the Marketplace to see If anything could be adopted to suit and can't find anything.

Now I know with software like IPS we are only limited by our imagination but in this case I am very much open to any suggestions, ideas, thoughts etc of how it could perhaps be done.

Any thoughts???

Depends on how much “managing” of the distribution you expect from the app. If it’s mostly about the listing, you could easily set up a (Wiki) Pages database for the items. It would already contain a title and description, but you can also add additional fields – including a member field, which shows who has the item currently.

You could create a database where each item is posted as a record.
Create 2 fields ( Member Field) , one for the current user and another for the member requesting it.

There shouldn't be any further coding required if your members are fair;) But you could also use some custom coding to block the changing or to automatically change the "current owner" and "requested by" fields.

You could use some ISBN API to get all the book information (title, cover, author, etc) just by typing the code. A lot of possibilities with a custom app.
