Ocean West Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Been cleaning up members and noticed that there were many banned spammers and they still have profile photos and cover photos - usually of naked ladies. Once someone is banned - and after some time the system should purge this content. It should be immediate for spammers. Spammers profile photo should not be a random HEX color it should be a specific color or actually it should be a specific color with a font awesome icon ☠️ or something 🚫

Ocean West Posted February 2, 2019 Author Posted February 2, 2019 I'd agree that this is true for banned people but after some delay if it purges the photo/cover and they are restored, they can put them back - but for people are spammers - i am confident it's save to purge.
bfarber Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 If you configure the IPS spam service to delete a user's content when they are flagged as a spammer, their profile picture should be deleted.
Ocean West Posted February 4, 2019 Author Posted February 4, 2019 The last few that that happened on didn't seem to - I will see what happens going forward. I don't have that enabled here because. I have stated elsewhere before that I am leery of a moderator who flags someone as spammer - out of boredom , accident, or malice on a 10 year member with thousands of posts that would shred the site.
ahc Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 I can confirm that it works if you have it set to delete content when the tool is used. Was already on my test site so decided to try it out because I wasn't aware it did all of that myself. If you don't trust your moderators with that power, they shouldn't have access to the button so that you're able to use it at its full potential. There are other alternatives that can be used to stop a spammer without using that tool by accessing their ACP profile that your moderators can utilize. (Ban them, restrict from posting, etc.) I have a custom script on my site that removes cover photos, background photos(custom), and reverts the profile photo to the set default when someone is moved out of our member and staff groups; in this case banned. That's an option as well if you don't want to use the spam tool, though you'll need to commission a developer for that.

Well, if you're afraid that a rogue moderator might flag a 10 year old member as a spammer out of malice, so you don't want their content deleted automatically, then I'd assume that same concern should apply to the member's other content such as their profile photo. It's a situation where you have to decide whether the convenience outweighs the risk/fear.
Ocean West Posted February 5, 2019 Author Posted February 5, 2019 My point is that a specific groups should be protected from being flagged as spammer. Just like there is a toggle for "Can be ignored" or Flag As Spammer feature should have list of groups that you can restrict the feature to. How often do you - if ever - flag someone as a spammer who is on your site for over a few years or decade? If you started seeing suspicious stuff you could take other precautions to moderate their postings - (perhaps their account was compromised - or left logged in on a public computer ) The automatic content moderation rules - provide means to allow members to report someone as a spammer when moderators are not around and if enough flag it then the content will be removed only if that spammer is in a specific group.
