[Clubs] Another New Type?

To whom it may concern,

Is there any possibility of getting a Partially Open club? What I mean here is that club owners don't want to verify every member that joins (closed clubs), but don't want non-members to see posted content (open/public clubs). They need a go-between. Mainly because with the new club updates, members have been asking if it would be possible to use it as a Patreon alternative. This would require some of this functionality...

Cheers!

Would love to see this as well.  This is the primary function of our clubs (patreon alternative), and they deal with just having to have a closed group and verifying new members.  In fact, I thought that's what "Open" was initially since I came from a few other websites where Open meant the group was open for anyone to join and content was hidden until you became a member.

You can already do this in a round-about way. The Applications interface allows you to restrict access to a module, so you can stop guests from seeing anything to do with clubs. You can use an announcement or featured topic to explain how to access these areas by registering.

Not the purpose here Matt. We also want to stop registered members from viewing the content until they've paid the membership per club. Its just that the club moderators don't want to have to approve every single application to their club, and don't want non-club-members to see the data there first. Maybe I didn't explain well enough? Sorry.

I agree. It makes sense. Just needs a club checkbox “auto-approve new members”. If it’s a paid membership, then that’s what’s expected as default. But it makes sense for closed free clubs as well.

Example from my site: I allow clubs in different languages for the same topic as the community site. Those clubs must be closed so people don’t see the languages they don’t understand. But if people want to join, they are totally free to do that. There is zero need for an approval.

Oh no... I assumed it already had this functionality as that would be obviously what we want out of a paid club.

Since the day clubs were announced all I could think was wow, I want to use this to provide patreon like functionality.

I have been in a holding pattern waiting for for this functionality .. I thought we were finally there. Sad to hear it's not quite there yet.

@SJ77 Paid clubs can be open (automatic approval) or closed (approval required) or any other type.

Yes, but in the "Open" type, anyone can see the content, even if they can't respond to it. In the "closed" type, the club owner has to approve each and every individual application. I think what would be nice is one in which someone who isn't a part of the club cannot read/see the content, but who can join by paying the fee without needing approval of the club owner.
