Is php-ssh2 working for anyone with php7?

I can't seem to get it installed. Ubuntu 16.04. 

I don't have ftp on my server, only sftp. Invision asks that php-ssh2 be installed for automatic updating. After I install, and try to auto update, it whitescreens and until i uninstall php-ssh2 and restore a db backup, my site is unavailable. The update process starts, then it just goes to a blank white screen. I've reverted to doing updates manually, but it would be nice to get this working.
