Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted January 5, 20178 yr For those of you that use it, is it good? I am in the process of moving my site to a new host that offers PHP7 and wanting to know about it, thank you.
January 5, 20178 yr If you mean PHP 7.0 - yes, it's very good and works perfect. But there are large problems with PHP 7.1 - don't use it. Otherwise, your community will appear to be completely unusable. At least, if you're using 4.1.17.1.
January 5, 20178 yr Author Thanks I noticed PHP 7.1 and wondered about it. Thanks for mentioning your experience with it.
January 6, 20178 yr The 7.0.x series is fully compatible with the latest IPS releases and brings significant speed improvements. Go for it.
January 15, 20178 yr Author Is there anything else I should upgrade 1st before upgrading to PHP7? Also, lets so it don't work out, am I able to go back?
January 15, 20178 yr Author Upgraded to PHP7 and all seems to be running good. Is there anything else I can do to improve performance? My site does not have many members but a massive amount of files that can be downloaded by guests and members. I am just trying to improve speed with my site. For example, sometimes someone will post a review on a file and it can take up to 30 seconds for it too post. The same problem changing featured files. Moving to a new host and upgrading to PHP7 has worked out much better but trying to squeeze more performance out of my site. If anyone has suggestions, please post.

Usually the 30s wait time is caused by a misconfiguration in your email settings.
January 16, 20178 yr Author I did work on the email settings after moving to a new server. Actually, I was forced too because my emails (site email account) was not working correctly after moving to a new host. It works now after working with it. However, maybe I am missing something? Do you have any ideas or something I am missing? I welcome all ideas, thanks.
