Custom Fields anywhere and everywhere.

This application is an update to the v3 versions of the Topic Template System and the Calendar Template System.

The Template System allows you to customize anything in the suite - forums, calendars, gallery categories, blogs, etc - and to create forms for the user to populate when posting new content.

• Create custom fields
• Group custom fields into Sets for individual containers (e.g. forums)
• Customize the layout of the field values when viewing content
• Allow multiple Sets per container to give users a choice of which form to populate
• Mark individual fields as required - preventing users from creating content without populating the additional fields

 

 

 

What would be an example where this addon would be useful to a community?

If you have a help forum, for example, and you want the user to populate certain fields so that you have all the information they need.

If you have a gaming community, and you want people to enter the game they are referring to.

if you have a community around nature (like bird-watching) and people are uploading images and you want to make sure they enter things like the location of the image and/or the subject of the image.

I'm sure I can think of other examples if I put my mind to it. The idea is to eliminate things like "if you are posting in this forum, please make sure you provide the specs of your PC". That goes away, because the user simply can't post anymore without providing that information.

Documentation is included with the download.

1. In the ACP, go to Community -> Template System -> Sets.
2. Find the set you want to work with and choose "Views" from the dropdown on the right
3. Set "Use Default View Template" to off
4. You'll have a new Content area where you can edit the layout.

 

 

This is for Topic View. what I need is the look in Post View (when you post new topic)

This totally isn't what I expected it to be, can I please have a refund? Thought I could use it to actually add a template to new topics in specified forums, I wouldn't actually even use this. Unless you can add an option for HTML template to new topics that members can edit the values of (not the HTML itself) with the ability to disable the standard ckeditor entirely.

Yeah but that kind of setup would be extremely tedious to get right, I'd rather just have a HTML template appear in the editor when a user wants to post a new topic in the specified forums.

I am trying to figure out what exactly this is and what it could be used for. I read the description but I still don't know what I could do with this 😞

Need a new field in topic post screen? Gallery post image? Event post screen? Downloads files post screen? It also adds in other 3rd-party resources if they follow IPS standards.

Never used it but that’s what I understand from the description. 

Hi, is possible with your app to do on calendar:

In form I will fill up only Start of event and Title? (no content).

End of event can be required or automatically +2hour?

All of these are handled by the core IPS functionality, it's not specific to my app.

1. IPS does not offer a time field

2. Again, the options available for each field type are handled by the core IPS functionality.

Why is a massive delay in the support?

 

I love how I have to get into my personal life on these topics..... I had covid in January, followed by my kids. Fell massively behind with work. My private clients take precedence over marketplace support.

Just a fact of life, you have a client/customer, no matter what minimal amount they paid or how long ago, they mostly expect you to drop everything 24/7 to sort their issue out as they are blinkered and think they are the only customer/client in the world and you dont have a life or anything better to do..... I have had quite a few of them over the years, thankfully I got rid of most of them 😆

first, I'd like to say, that it's a great app and we've been using it for years. Unfortunately however it appears, that recently, after we performed a community upgrade around July 20th to be exact, we have encountered an issue - the custom fields suddenly stopped appearing when creating topics.

These custom fields were untouched for a long time. We tried disabling every single app and plugin, but the fields still weren't showing up.

Just to be sure, I installed your app on fresh local test installation (by the way it doesn't seem like Invision likes this type of troubleshooting for some reason, had to go with workarounds to get the app there) and configured some fields to see if the app works in clean environment - it did, so I started digging in our current configuration of that app.

After reverse-engineering all the settings, it turns out, that the "Editor" Field Type;

- causes the entire Template Set to stop appearing during topic creation. The fields along with their contents are still normally present in topics created in the past, these just don't show up when creating and editing the topics.

When I add fields with other types, these normally show up, but the moment I add an "Editor" field to the set, it causes all to disappear, making topic creation show only the default content field. I've checked if it can be recreated in the aforementioned clean installation, and the same issue occurs.

 

As a workaround, we have been considering swapping the type of that field from "Editor" to "Text Area", which honestly would be fine and works, but even though the settings do not show the following warning in this scenario:

- we're still worried it might negatively impact existing content, and there's a lot of it there, so we've decided to not risk losing it, and contact you instead.

Is it something you'd be able to patch?
