Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
John_C Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 OK, I'm running IPB v3.4.7 and want to install a test forum with v4.0.13.1 on a sub-domain. I got errors: Quote Warning: Unexpected character in input: '\' (ASCII=92) state=1 in /admin/install/index.php on line 13Warning: Unexpected character in input: '\' (ASCII=92) state=1 in /admin/install/index.php on line 13Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /admin/install/index.php on line 13 So basically I need to install php v5.4, correct? If I install php 5.4 on my GoDaddy shared hosting, will it break my current forum running v3.4.7 on php 5.2.17? Or will the forum automatically recognize the php upgrade and still work?

John_C Posted October 11, 2015 Author Posted October 11, 2015 So you upgraded your php version to a newer one and it did not break 3.4.8? What version did you update from? My current config is using php 5.2.17 and the latest I can upgrade to is php 5.4.
Pete T Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 My php before was 5.3.x so i upgraded to 5.6 not 5.5 sorry and during the upgrade the forums never broke i also upgraded my MySQL as that was little outdated.
RevengeFNF Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 I always update to the latest software and never broked anything. I even already tested IPS4 with PHP 7 and everything works fine.

John_C Posted October 11, 2015 Author Posted October 11, 2015 GoDaddy hosting doesn't show any later version to update to. Otherwise, I'd update to the latest version that worked with the forum software versions 3.4.7 and 4.0.13.1.
RevengeFNF Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 PHP 5.6 works with both versions. PHP 7.0 only works with IPS 4 and gives almost double the speed. Ask GoDaddy if they can update to 5.6.
Woodsman Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Submit a ticket or call GoDaddy tech support and see if they can't update to at least 5.6. They are usually a reasonable bunch over there.. *EDIT* Now this strange. @RevengeFNF I didn't even see your post here until after I posted the did a refresh to get rid of the editor... And according to the time stamp you posted 7 hours ahead of me.... Damn Poltergeist in my machine must be playing around...
John_C Posted October 12, 2015 Author Posted October 12, 2015 I posted a ticket this morning, but no answer yet. I figure they are not there on the weekends since I got no reply today. I'm impatient. That's why I tried to ask here. I figured someone would know. Just need to know if upgrading from php 5.2.17 to php 5.4 will work for both IPB 3.4.7 and 4.0.13.1 without breaking the old stable forum that is live right now.
John_C Posted November 8, 2015 Author Posted November 8, 2015 Got GoDaddy to wallk me through it. Had to create a new database to get on 5.5 and then restore my backup to it. Then had to edit the config file to connect. All is well on that issue now.
