How to edit menu in IPB4 Pages

I have recently upgraded my community to IPB4.x and I can't seem to figure out how to edit the main navigation. I have read documenation such as https://community.invisionpower.com/4docs/administration/pages/the-menu-manager-in-pages-r164/ but it seems that IPB4.x is lacking the functionalities that IPB3.x had with being able to move around the positions of custom navigation items and the IPS Apps.

Is this true?

This is how the main menu looks for me

I would like to move Forums to be in between Home and Deals however it seems impossible.

When I disable the Forums application from showing up in the navigation, and making the URL link. It does not show up in the menu when it is clicked on. It looks like the menu item is unselected.

You can move the app navigation buttons, by moving the apps itself under ACP → System → Apps

Different links per app (e.g. all Pages links) are bundled together currently. But this is not a problem anymore in 4.1.

That doesn't really help. Like I said all I can move is the forums app above or below the pages app. Which just moves the tab before home or after why join. I can't really force the menu option to appear between Home and Deals.  Since all the Pages buttons move as one.

My “help” was to describe what is going on and what can be done from the admin’s perspective. So you don’t have to look for ways around this problems if there are none. You either need to wait for 4.1, use a 3rd-party menu manager or live with the work-around of a fully Pages-driven menu.

I agree the current menu manager is pretty bad. However, like opentype said, 4.1 looks to have a much better menu manager, which should be released fairly soon.

What I did (before I knew 4.1 improved the Menu Manager) was to disable all apps from showing in the navigation.

Then I manually created.links back to each application / page as needed, which gave me the customization I wanted.

How did you get the links to stay highlighted when someone would visit a certain page. For instance, if they clicked 'Forum'. Would the navigation tab be highlighted when they viewed the forum? Or did you just forgo that functionality?

That's the downside :(

But honestly .... Between having a proper navigation structure versus a fancy highlight which doesn't do anything I chose function over form.

At least when you rebuild all links to apps its consistent since none of the links or apps are highlighted.
