Maybe I am missing something, however, is there no way to upload a meta image for Facebook so when someone shares something to Facebook it displays said image?

you could use the meta tag editor and insert an og:image tag for a whole section of your site

It’s in the theme setting:

And it can get overridden in certain areas, e.g. when you post a Pages articles it pulls the Record Image for that article. Perfect!
