should running a query as instructed return zero rows?

I was upgrading 4.0 to 4.1 and the installer told me to run the following query manually

ALTER TABLE `core_search_index` ADD KEY `index_date_updated` (`index_date_updated`)

doing so returned zero rows

MySQL returned an empty result set (i.e. zero rows). (Query took 64.6747 seconds.)

Is that normal?
