Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Maxxius Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 It has recently been brought to our attention that the MySQL man pages have been relicensed. The change was made rather silently going from MySQL 5.5.30 to MySQL 5.5.31. This affects all pages in the man/ directory of the source code. https://blog.mariadb.org/mysql-man-pages-silently-relicensed-away-from-gpl/ does that mean anything for IPS company?
Maxxius Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 I dunno, use of mysql database and such? its a matter of time before they will charge for using mysql imho.
Hasore Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Update: Oracle is saying that this is a bug: http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=69512
skizzerz Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 One cannot just relicense GPL "like that" -- EVERY contributor to that source code file (or documentation page as the case may be here) needs to agree to relicense (or their changes to the file need to be removed/reverted before relicensing), and that is incredibly difficult to accomplish when one accepts contributions from the community at-large.
