Ivan Gonzalez Jr Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 IP has any plans on making a tube like media player for the web youtube like. ? Keep me posted ~ thanks
Management Charles Posted January 21, 2010 Management Posted January 21, 2010 Technically not difficult but we have not explored it too much because of the server resources needed. Google spends millions upon millions keeping Youtube up because videos are intensive. You have server resources being taken up with uploading, encoding, bandwidth, and storage. The average person just does not have those resources in place.
Mark Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Theoretically, with enough server power, IP.Gallery is capable of this (that is, IP.Gallery accepts and can playback media files).

Jaggi Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 we looked into this at my work place and just cus of the resources needed decided to make use of the youtube api and upload videos there and make use of their bandwidth. Pretty hard to host and process videos without a multitude of servers. Hell google have their own ozone hole from the amount of servers they have keeping google and youtube alive.
bfarber Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Indeed, IP.Gallery *can* do this. But if you expect any sort of usage/traffic, you better be prepared with the server resources you are going to need, because it will get expensive quickly.

Is there a product on the way that can do that?
Adriano Faria Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 You can use Embed Videos here http://www.devfuse.com/products/60-videos-system/
Gros Blaireau Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Technically not difficult but we have not explored it too much because of the server resources needed. Google spends millions upon millions keeping Youtube up because videos are intensive. You have server resources being taken up with uploading, encoding, bandwidth, and storage. The average person just does not have those resources in place. At least, may be you could create a script to display the videos like they are in youtube, with comment, sort, etc... And we embed our videos from youtube or elsewhere. It's better than to do our own simple video-category on IP.Content, for exemple.
Gros Blaireau Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Is it really possible to display videos, including youtube videos, in the gallery ? I never tried that before. The result looks good ? Do you have an exemple on line ? What's the result if the videos doesn't have any screenshot ? IP.Gallery doesn't create a screenshot.

It looks like any other gallery page, so if gallery looks good, it will look good. If you don't like how gallery looks, you won't like how the video embedded looks. If you don't upload a screenshot with a video, a generic media icon (relative to the type of media) is used. Users are able to upload a screenshot with the video, if they want.
Jaggi Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Is there a product on the way that can do that? yes, visit http://code.google.com/apis/gdata/articles/php_client_lib.html for how to. The api is bundled as part of the zend framework and works well.
yacenty Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 How can I embeed videos from YT or different sites like for example agrovideo.pl Is it possible to treat them as regullar picture? so I mean rate it and comment? Just now the biggest problem is with handling video - because of codecs and possible browser configuration We have many people that complains that can not play any videos in current collection of agrofoto.pl Could You help somehow? Thanks yacenty
bfarber Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 If you are having trouble with the gallery software, I'd recommend submitting a ticket so that someone can take a look.
Axel Wers Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Theoretically, with enough server power, IP.Gallery is capable of this (that is, IP.Gallery accepts and can playback media files). Yes, but converting to flv format is missing. FLVs are better solution than avi or mpg.
bfarber Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Yes, but converting to flv format is missing. FLVs are better solution than avi or mpg. Why exactly?
Axel Wers Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Generally avi and mpg files are larger than flv and caching takes much more time as well.
bfarber Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Interesting. Thanks. (I'm not a graphics or media buff as you can tell)
bfarber Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Gallery doesn't support linking to offsite content. It requires the content to be uploaded to it (at this time).
bfarber Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 I'm not sure what you're after. 1) You can upload them to youtube and give your members link (maybe a topic in the forums) 1a) You can use IP.Content to make a "youtube viewer". Like we did here: http://ipcontent.invisionzone.com/media.html 2) You can upload them to Gallery and let your users browse them on your own site 3) You can upload them to Download Manager and let your users download them to watch them on their own computer
yacenty Posted March 22, 2010 Posted March 22, 2010 users complains that they could now watch it - in many cases there are some problems with web browsers config
Guest Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 This is the way to do it is with a flash player and you have to do it manually: Convert your movie to FLV... And you will save lots of space and bandwidth. All that is required to use FLV Player is the ability to upload the files to your server, and then change the variables within the embed code. Once the player has been uploaded to your server, you can then use the embed code to place a video player on any page on your website.
