Anonymous IPB User Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Just wanted to add:The Warning system: How about some improvements to the warning system so that when a warning is issued, it creates a post in a specified forum so all the moderators are kept up to speed with what the other moderators are doing? Report Post: Same as above.Updates: How about forum upgrades which do not kill all the forums mods? I know this is probably very difficult, but it would be nice...
WebbyB Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Reputation System: And I would LOVE to see a simple reputation system! An ideal reputation system would be a private one that only the member who receives the reputation can see and only allow positive reputation. This will eliminate the issues of negative reputation and allow for people to rep those who offer the best posts. I have seen these on forums and the members LOVE them! This is a great idea, rating systems that use a number i.e. Rate this person out of 10 - will get abused and they don't work too well...e.g. you will get people that put 1/10 just because they can and abuse the system. An effective way to score is giving the user a "+" or a "Thumbs Up" - these count towards a total score. So if you like a user/topic..give it a positive vote, you can unvote yourself but you can never give a negative i.e. 1 out of 10. In a nutshell it's the same principles behind how Digg votes. - So yes a reputation/Kudos sytem that works like that would be very well received.

Velvet Elvis Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 If you're browsing a forum with say, 5000 topics and want to selectively delete some older ones it's a pain because after you delete a thread it returns you to the first page of the index. If I delete a topic from page 15 of 19, I want to be returned to page 15 of 19. The same problem exists with the PM index.
kirov Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Just wanted to add: The Warning system: How about some improvements to the warning system so that when a warning is issued, it creates a post in a specified forum so all the moderators are kept up to speed with what the other moderators are doing? i have suggested this in another topic, I hope IPB will implement this, this was made by a mod, rapsheets, or something like this, but the moded hasn't been updated since ipb 2.2
Bain Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I don't know if it has been mentioned or not, but I would like to see the Private Messaging system to become 100% private. This can be done by using md5 to encrypt the text in the database & any other invalid way of viewing a users PM box. I know a lot of administrators enjoy peaking at what is written, I personally find it an invasion of privacy and feel this should be encrypted. If I knew how then I would implement this my own self. I would like to be able to tell my members that all private conversations could never fall into someone elses hands unless it is reported by the other party.
Jaggi Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 the only problem with this is that in order for a user to be able to read them then you would need the ability to decrypt them and theres nothing stopping someone from making a mod to just decrypt logs so admin can still read them. The key would have to be stored somewhere in order for it to work.
TestingSomething Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I don't think it's right to randomly read them either. But if someone does report wrongdoing in PMs, then the admin would need the evidence then really.

CoderX Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 A chat/instant message system similar to the new facebook's chat system would be awesome!
Jaggi Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 as i previously stated, the key code can be encoded using ioncube for example this would require everyone to install ioncube then which isn't a very realistic ask. Also this is still not answering what i said, the admin would still have access to that pass in some shape or form because the forum would need to decrypt the logs using this key each time a user wants to read a pm, this would also add load.
Lindsey_ Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 IPS could all ways do the install like Vbulletin. It asks for your customer ID to install. But alot of people will just remove that code so it is a waste of time.
Mark H. Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Personal feelings aside (and I have my own), I think everyone should to find out, from their respective local authority, whether YOU might be held personally responsible for the content of the system which you Administer or own. These days, claiming ignorance of something stored on "space" (be it plain text or an SQL database) over which you have full control, might not pass muster in a court of law, if it came to that. Laws can vary widely. And that's true from one Town to the next, let alone one Nation to the next. RV

You do realise MD5 is irreversible right? Which is to say, that even the recipient wont be able to view it! But then again, your idea is something that cannot be implemented anyway. Why? Because in certain cases where the law may become involved, a court order can compell an administrator to deliver information such as Personal Messages (there's a reason IP.B doesn't call them Private Messages) for use as evidence. And courts don't care about privacy of your members - if you are unable to provide them there's a good chance you'll be held in contempt.(Please note the following: I am not a lawyer and this post is not intended to convey legal advice. joelle Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I don't really care about SEO but a SITEMAP Generator needs everyone who wants to get indexed well by search engines. :)
Stuart Elliott Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Suggestion for next version: ability to turn off unwanted 'bloat' for example, all this Social Networking "friends", "about me", stuff - which is fine for acne induced 14 year olds, but looks tacky on a company site, rather than having to skin it out - not showing it still uses the same resources, whereas hopefully not loading the specific module reduces load times.
WebbyB Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I don't really care about SEO but a SITEMAP Generator needs everyone who wants to get indexed well by search engines. :) Well if that's the case then SEFURL's is a must for you and everyone and will work alongside a sitemap generator to improve your ranking within the SERP. As it improves the relevancy of your threads and forums.
mmalacarne Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I think it could be useful to improve the payed subscription system. It seems powerful, but could be better if improved with unfixed price (free offer, the user can choose to pay 2$ or 10$) and with the possibility to choose the quantity of the subscription. In this way the Subscription system will became some sort of mini e-commerce, with simple (i think) modifications.
IBTheme Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 (If this were available, the comments section could be used for reviews, guestbook, or however the admin chooses.) [*]I would like to see a whole new skin design for the default IPB skin. (a little clich [*]I would like to see google checkout added to the subscription manager. [*]I would also like to see the ability to add longer comments in the profile view.
WebbyB Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Similar Topics Can't remember if I have mentioned this before (the thread is so big now) - but having Similar Topics listed under the thread...where the ammount to be shown is configured via the Admin control panel. :)
BryanH Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 Similar Topics should be easy to do with the tag system.
albertaaquatica Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 I'd like to see a new option in the Moderation Options that is to "Quick Move" or as I would call it "Archive". Basically a preconfigured Move to a prespecified forum (possibly defaulted to the same forum as a Prune is set to do) without a Ghost thread being left. My forum has a buy/sell/trade section that we aut prune after 60 days, but often things sell much faster. We have to manually go in every day and search out Sold threads and then move them using several steps to select the destination and No, I don;t want to leave a ghost behind... when there are often 10+ threads each day, it becomes a time consuming PITA. If there was a backend selector of where to move the Archives, and it automatically would NOT leave a ghost, saves me quite a few clicks and a scroll each time, making it a literal one-click-solution. Highlight the thread in the forum view, select "Archive Threads" from the Mod options and hit "With Selected" to go to a simple ONE click confirmation screen.
friction Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 I like the see the use of a calendar function when suspending a member. Right now all you can do is add the amount of "days" or "years". If we had a calendar which is selectable by years, months, days, then Admins could pinpoint the exact day they want to suspend someone. It would also make increasing a period of time a member is suspended easier also instead of unsuspending them and then re-suspending them.
kirov Posted April 26, 2008 Posted April 26, 2008 I would like every subforum to have an icon that is new posts/no new posts and when someone posts in the subforum the icon to change from no new posts to new posts
