Bulk mail feature
by Guest George B.- 0 replies
- 1.8k views
Hello I have a few groups set up, e.g. Assistants and MOG. Sometimes I need to send a bulk email to a group which is no problem. However, I now have a situation where I have some members who belong to more than one group. E.g. the primary group is Assistants and the secondary group is MOG. If I want to send an email to all the MOG group, the people who are also in the Assistants group will not get the email. E.g. John is in Assistants. I have now registered him in MOG. I want to send all MOG members an email. He will not receive it because MOG is his secondary group. It is no use including the assistants group in the mailing as I do not want all the assistants to see th…

Keyword & Ping System
by Guest Guardian2- 2 replies
- 1.7k views
The Keyword System would allow the thread creator to enter in keywords in a field just below the Topic Description field. Keywords would then be listed at the top of the thread, with a link to a popup window that list all keywords, and each keyword is linked to a keyword search feature to list all threads with that keyword. Any member would be able to add keywords to the keyword field in the currently occupied thread. AJAX would be great for editing this field The Ping System would enable any member to ping any member(s) to a post or topic they are in. Ping notification would be similar to the PM notification, indicating quantity of pings, with a link to a popup window …

Unified "New Topic"
by Guest //Nathan- 3 replies
- 1.9k views
Rather than a "New Topic" which has in its URL the forum number (I think that's how you have it), how about an additional field, "Post In:" with the caption underneath Please be sure to post this in the correct forum. Too often, people post in the wrong forum, and I wonder if part of it is the "confusion" of posting in several different forums, and hitting New Topic in the wrong one. This could be expanded to allow mods/admins to create announcements, as they would be able to select multiple forums. I see 2.1 allows mods/admins to create topics with custom open/close date/times... we could take the announcement feature out of the UCP entirely and merge it with the New…

IP Vs Name ?
by Guest .SiLlY.- 3 replies

Ummm. I'm looking for a mod or an edit. One that would make the board see everyones IP as there name. I dont want to see names. My goal is to make my online community simulate the government and only recognize members by digits. (w00t) LOL! I'm only kidding btw!

Diversifying IPB product line
by Guest micron- 8 replies
- 3.2k views
I am running an IPB forum with over 45k unique visitors everyday. I realize that I am a minority in that respect - the majority of IPB users tend to run much smaller forums. Accordingly I understand its Invision's best interest to listen to the majority of its customer base, who tend to think that packing more features into IPB is a good thing, since they aren't as constrained by the upper limits of hardware. However, for people like me, I tend to see more features as bloatware. I haven't fully tested out 2.1 yet, but knowing that just the JavaScript and CSS loaded into every page is over 80kB makes me cringe inside. That coupled with the 7mB code base, you can see why I …

Revolutionise the way forums are organised 1 2
by Guest ph_bradley- 27 replies
- 6.6k views
The feature I'd like to suggest - tagging - is an implementation of a technology sweeping across the Web's most advanced websites at the moment: tagging. Companies such as Google turned to tagging ('labels') to organise emails. Microsoft is getting replacing My Documents-style fixed-location folders with Virtual Folders. http://del.icio.us/ is a revolutionary way of categorising and highlighting interesting websites and articles. http://www.flickr.com/ demonstrates tag-sorting applied to photo albums. I'd like IPB to destroy its fixed categories, forums and subforums system in favour of a revolutionary user-customisable system of virtual folders. More detail: - When a …

Some ideas

LIMITS 1. REGISTER->IP->WEEKDAY - This would limit how many times a IP could register per hour (like between 4->6 PM only 10 accounts could be made). Also could be per week day. OTHER 1. After posting... Option picked by each member. Go to forum or go to topic. 2. Copy Topic. Moderator tool. 3. More PM notifcations - This would send the admin (if they choose it) to get more PM'S then e-mails. (They couild even be put in a speical folder so the admin doesn't 'skip' over them and delete/not notice them 'accidently') 4. Visible warning level but the reason is not visible. 5. Birthday Icon. The calendar displays an icon if there are birthd…

More mass pruning options!
by Guest aoLhaTer- 10 replies
- 4.1k views
Right now the only pruning options that are available are: Prune topics with no new posts in X days, prunt topics with less than X posts and prune topics started by member I would like to see in addition to that, prune all REPLIES by member (when people spam replies) and I would also like to see prune all posts STARTED x days ago and older There just needs to be a greater diversity of options to choose from when pruning

Drop postcount in favor of something better
by Guest //Nathan- 1 reply
- 1.6k views
I know a lot of admins are not too fond of 'forum games' people play to jack up their postcount. I don't mind them... I move them all to a forum which has postcount incrementation disabled, and either nobody notices or nobody cares. I've never really liked the postcount feature. I know how to disable it... it's not too hard... but I was thinking a smarter system could be implemented. "Wordcount x1000" is the best way to describe it (think tachometers, RPM x1000, a guage that goes from 1 to 6-10 depending on the vehicle), but it could be called something a little more clever... like "Contribution Points". We can already count the number of characters in a post with …

Admin note under member's profile
by Guest RoninHBH- 5 replies
- 2.5k views
Hello I like the "Note" idea in ADMIN CP main page and in Users CP. But I would love to have that note for each and every member profile in Manage Members, so that admin can note what he knows about that particular member of his board. When you go to Manage Members, you can search for members, and then when member list shows, it shows Members name, IP, email, join date, member's group and a note for admin. This note only shows to admin. It would be nice if it shows in Forum Member List and in Member's profile too (ofcourse only admin can see it), but right now I need it in ACP - Manage Members. Can someone plz make this mod for me ? Matt plz ? Maybe in future releas…

Comments/Post "Kernel"
by Guest Jeremy-- 1 reply
- 1.8k views
Clearly, I have no idea how to word this properly. But this is the basic idea: Currently, the blog, gallery and board itself all use a different skin element from each file for comment display. As in, blog has it's own comment function in it's skin file, etc... Since these are all layed out the same way, wouldn't it be smart to have a global way of doing it? A global function for the source files to do the needed queries and then a global skin element that could be used for any module. Just think back to when 2.0 came out, the Top and Report buttons were moved from the right side of the post to the left for topic posts. But stayed on the right for Gallery comments (…

Member rating/reputation
by Guest //Nathan- 4 replies
- 2.7k views
I'm not a big fan of topic ratings, which was introduced in one of the beta builds (is it still there, or just disabled on the company forums? no matter...), but I always thought it would be neat to have member rating. If you post a question, and someone helps you, you add to their reputation. If they call you a stupid n00b and tell you where to take a flying leap, you subtract from it. As a community, after a couple months, a pecking order based on respect is established. You start with so many points, so you have some to lose without going into the negative numbers. Each member can choose to auto-ignore anyone with reputation below a certain level (above the defau…

IPB Portal...more functions needed!
by Guest Bamfer- 3 replies
- 2.1k views
I've found IPB's default portal to be rather drab. I've used bfbarber's portal since purchasing IPB back in May and I've loved it since it worked well with my needs. Since my upgrade to 2.1.1 I can't find a decent portal. None that work however. Even the IPB portal will not work for what I want it to do. This is what I need it for. I have comic book board and I use the portal to show upcoming books, popular covers, staff contacts etc...I can't get this with IPB's portal. I can't create blocks as far as I can see. Also, the information blocks are too large and there should, IMO, be blocks on both sides of the portal. Is there anyway this could be done with the next rel…

Matt, fix this with 1 keystroke
by Guest Please Delete- 12 replies

I use the classic view of Internet explorer and get this when posting. Notice the nasty white space around the radio buttons and check boxes. This makes the posting page look like it has not been completed yet. Now the PM page is properly finished. Note the little border around the check boxes. This is an easy fix by changing the border: 0 to border: 1 [code]radiobutton, .checkbox, .helpbox { border: 0; vertical-align: middle; } No big deal, but I just thought the posting screen could look more finished. PS. I'm not sure how it looks in other browsers but with IE and classic view this is what I get. After the fix.....

Topic page links
by Guest Vexus- 0 replies
- 1.7k views
Why is it when a topic has for example 12 pages, the page links read '1,2,3... 12'. Surely it would be better to have it set to '1... 10,11,12'. More often than not, a member has no need to see page 2 of the topic, although a link to the first page is useful. However, for particularly popular topics several members may need to go several pages back in order to catch up with their browsing and therefore, a system that allows them to select the previous page without entering the topic would be benefitical. I actually did this Mod on my old board but I simply cant find the code in V2.x.x to change it. I thought Id offer it as a suggestion as I really see no reason for keep…
