  1. Thanks Randy. Marc S. from Support just confirmed they are likely to be crawlers, as you said. Also, I could not block them if I wanted to, so I guess I just chill...
  2. I was reading some of the questions posted here on the forum, and came across this one and the recommended solution. Out of curiosity, I then checked up ACP-> System/Site Features/Applications/System/Moderator CP I've never changed any of these settings here before. When looking up permissions in this window, why do Guests and Members appear to have access to the Moderator CP module ("Can access module" box is pre-ticked)? Obviously, this setting is overridden somewhere as guest and members don't have such access, but why was it set this way apparently by default?
  3. Lol. Time zones can be so confusing. In the above, it is also not OK that the NZ member did not see the entry for 2nd Feb that could be seen in EU. The event was live as we were collecting the above data. So NZ should have seen something too. Changing to show 5 or 6 days shows events for everybody, but the list can be quite long and we'd prefer 2-3 days.
  4. I think at times about 30-40% of the traffic we got had IPs related to that above. My feeling is that they were/are "parked" in different forum sections for hours or days on end. My guess would be that they're there to feed off the info as soon as it's entered, but it beats me as to why anyone would want that. I was indeed considering blocking the IP range, though as I understand it that won't cut it if someone really wants in.
  5. I adjusted settings for the Upcoming Events window to show 3 days, and max 5 events. We have a forum member in the US midwest-ish, one in New Zealand, and I myself in Europe. The composite screen grabs done at the same time on my call shows the puzzling picture, with the number of events available reflected in the US portion: Issues: 1. Of the 4 events available, why are all four shown for US members when the filter should remove entries for the 7th and 8th? 2. Why does a European member see the entry for the 8th? 3. The NZ member does not see entries for the 2nd. That's ok. But why doesn't he see the entry for the 8th if I do? Shouldn't the correct view be: NZ sees nothing, EU sees 2nd Feb. only, USA sees 2 entries, but not those for the 7th and 8th Feb. Any ideas?
  6. Hello, for a couple of days, we've had many "Guests" all over the forum whose IPs all stem from compute.hwclouds-dns.com. Apparently from Kowloon, Hong Kong. Guests do have access to our forum, though they cannot post. An internet search of the IPs brings up all sorts of info: spammers, site crawling for info with disregard to robots.txt instructions... along those lines. Should I be worried?
  7. Our members have reported that their Imgur-hosted images not longer are embedded. Anyone know anything about this?
  8. Hi, yes. When I want to set up keyCapcha, I get this window: The info says "Specify CMS installed in your site" with the info below it as shown in the image. That's it. The dropdown list provides options (Bitrix, Concrete5, DLE, Drupal ElkArte IP.Board, Joomla, Movable Type, MyBB, OpenCart, Phorum, phpBB, Pligg, SMF, vBulletin, Woltlab BB, Wordpress, Xenforo, Xoops, other CMS.) oh @Nathan Explosion Thank you. Posts crossed. Got it.
  9. .. I see all sorts of options but cannot find which one applies: IPBoard, vBulletin, Phorum, Xenforo...
  10. Marc, hello. Thanks for the suggestions. Where do I find the "CMS"? I have to specify that for keyCaptcha. Also, would you use Q&A in addition or instead of the above? I guess you're going to say "choose what works best for you" 🙂 but is there something else I should know? Remember, I'm an amateur.
  11. howdy folks, we got a spam wave rolling in this morning despite 1) the requirement to register by email 2) the requirement to accept guidelines and the privacy policy and 3) having the "invisible" captcha option on. I switched to the second captcha level, but that didn't stop the wave entirely. So in addition to the above, I've now added the requirement for moderator approval for the first post. That seems to have worked. Just a heads up.
  12. ahh.... 💡. Many thanks, and have a great day!
  13. But everybody sees that. I'd like it restricted to Guests?
  14. hmm So the browser's editor windows are recognized as image editors for Excel-formatted content (but not by Word). Interesting. It used to be different, though, because just a month or so ago pasting into posts directly from Excel worked.
  15. Would it be possible to have a message of sorts pop up for Guests reminding them, e.g., of the benefits of registering? Thanks
  16. Marc, that's not accurate. The Paste function pastes from Excel into Word properly, not as an image. I have the same issue as OP, I solve it as I wrote above.
  17. my tip would be: copy from Excel, paste in MS Word (keep source formatting is ok). Then copy the table and paste into your post. Voila. You may need to readjust the columns in MS Word first.
  18. ok. Just to clarify, the person involved said a team of moderators could work their way through the list (of already visible posts) using the Approval queue, and the post was removed from the queue on approval. That way they only had unmoderated posts in the queue. He said as the posts were already visible, they could wait for days or more before moderation. Ok, I thank you all @Miss_B, @Jim M and @Marc Stridgen for your input. Have a great day, guys. You've basically all three solved my issue, so forgive me for granting the honor to the first reply (as I cannot select all).
  19. thank you both. The moderator in question was adamant that the previous site he worked on (also hosted here) had said function. Could it have been a 3rd party thingy?
  20. It appears to me that the Approval Queue is for posts etc that are only made visible after approval. However, one of our moderators said it should also be possible to use the Approval Queue for all posted and visible content on a forum, so moderators can sift through them all. In this case, approval only means they have been checked by a moderator. How do I activate this feature? Any help appreciated.
  21. Took a moment after installing the update, but it worked! Thanks @Jim M
  22. @Jim M, thanks for the info. I'm glad you could solve the issue... whatever it was. Now, instead, the admin panel show a new alert: Locked Task: viewupdates One of the routine maintenance tasks which run in the background has failed several times, which may indicate a configuration issue. Application/Plugin System Task viewupdates Last Run 2 hours ago You should check the logs for any indication of the issue or attempt to run it manually. If the task does not run successfully and you require further assistance, please contact support. Does this have anything to do with the issue? It wasn't there before.
  23. the warning is now gone... no word yet from support. ...And now the warning is back again.... Support? Anybody?
